Receiver static We have a KLH R5100 model receiver. It's about 9 years old now, possibly more. Last I checked, it was working just fine. A few months ago, my parents switched to DirecTV and their tech guys must have disconnected and reconnected some of the cables as my parents only had sound out of the TV - the receiver was not working. I reconnected everything, but I'm getting a TON of static from the 3 speakers we have hooked up (we've only had 3 hooked up in the new house, not all 5). Any thoughts as to why we're getting so much static now? It persists for all inputs.

For Stereo Mode (Front L & R Speaker), you must plug RCA cables (match up red and white) from Output on DVD player to DVD Input on the back of the receiver. Then with speaker wire, run from receiver speaker output (Front Speakers) to designated speaker (make sure + and - match up to both input and output). As for hooking up surround sound, I'm currently trying to figure that one out with just using the L, R and Center. I don' t want wire running all over the place just for rears. Hope this helps

Open the receiver and locate the potentiometer for the volume. There should be small openings in which you can spray electrical contact cleaner. The spray can be found at any electronic supply store (Radio Shack). Make sure the product says no or zero residue. I use a product called "Electrosolve". After spraying, immediately rotate the pot back and forth a few times. You may need to repeat this process two or three times. You might as well hit the other controls while you're at it. If several attempts don't eliminate the problem, the pot will need to be replaced.

use component audio to the HDTV and optical audio to your KLH reciever. The component and optical are always active at the same time. I work for TWC if you have more questions.

You have a faulty reciever.
Take it back and get another.
No sense in going any further.

could be 2 things....
1) The receiver could be set to feed the right speaker with more volume. Check the volume setting for each individual speaker on the receiver.

2) The cable connecting the left input from your dvd player is not connected properly or is bad. Try swapping the left and right audio input cables to see if this moves the problem to the other side. If it does - get a new cable.
