Check connections from your power outlet to your fridge. If the motor is not running check your thermostat. if not working check your compressor motor.

Can I use my freezer in an unheated garage?

No. There are units designed to operate in a garage. These units are pretty expensive. The drastic change in temperature tricks the sensing components. You have a good chance of loosing your food product in the unit. As a former service technician, if the call was for a unit in a garage, we would contact the customer, explain the situation and cancel the call.

Freezer in unheated/unairconditioned garage it stays cold in winter time but it is not freezing when the temperature is hot in the garage

The first thing is to find out if there is a fan that runs next to the compressor. If not then in the summer the machine is overheating and passing the heat up to the machine itself thawing or preventing the freezer from operation properly

Can a chest freezer be used in an unheated garage where the temeprature falls below freezing for an extended period? The garage is insulated so it doesn't get as cold as outdoors but it does drop below...

why not then when its down to zero shut the unit off and open the lid and free freezing...no electricity required....remember pop machines sit out in all types of weather

Whining sound from motor on Frigidaire upright freezer

Hi: It sounds like you bought a frost free freezer as it has a fan. The fan will come on to circulate the air. It will not necessarly run continuosly. The noise is most likely coming from the fan. I sold Frigidaire freezers for years and they are noisy compared to a refridgerator. If you think it is louder than it was when you bought it, I would replace the circulating fan. Also look at the back wall for frost as it could be a bad defrost heater blocking it with ice. Most likely just the fan though. Since it's in a detached garage, and you won't have to put up with the noise inside your house, it could run a while before failing. The fact it's getting cold is a very good sign. Also as you asked 2'nd, a freezer is ok in an unheated garage. Don't put a refrigerator in there. Unless It is a Whirlpoll Gladiator that is designed for such applications. Use www.searspartsdirect.com to find out where the fan is if you feel it is necessary to replace it. Its not a tough job if you are handy. Their shipping is expensive so you might want to buy it locally.
