When I turn on my xbox it says the whole system error thing and to contact Xbox Customer Support. E 68 at the bottom of the screen. Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
I think i can solve this try this out
I just had this exact problem, E 68, and was about to call MS, I removed HD and let system reboot without it and it booted fine i rebooted one more time without HD for a total of two. I then tried to reinstall the harddrive and noticed that it did not want to snap in. I played with it a few min more and finally got it to snap in properly. I think it was not seated properly to begin with as it was down further on the back side than it was before i removed it. I also heard two distinct clicks as it clicked in at the rear and then at the front. Once i did that it fired back up with both my profiles and is now working again. my 360 is laying horizontally
not sure if this work but its worth a try
A Working Solution.
Remove any disk from the DVD drive.
Remove the hard drive and turn on. When you get to the dashboard turn it off again by holding the X button on the controller and select 'Turn off console'.
Wait 10 seconds and then turn on again by pushing the X button on the controller. When you get to the dashboard turn off again via the X button.
Remove the AV / Video plug from the back of your Xbox.
Replace the hard drive correctly.
Switch on the Xbox via the power button on the console. 4 red lights should flash.
Wait 10 seconds and re-insert the AV / Video cable.
You should now load into the dashboard with your hard drive profiles - wait theres more!
Turn off and on via the X button as before another 2 times with all leads and the hard drive in place.
After you power it off the second time, remove the power lead for 20 minutes and then turn on again any way you feel like it and it should be cured.
What do you do if the 4 red lights never flash?
so ive tried LITERALLY every solution on here and none of em worked. do you know if it is possible for microsoft to transfer my saved data to a new hard drive so i dont have to start over?
if the 4 red lights don't turn on after 10 seconds, just plug the AV back in, it should restart the xbox again and continue with the steps he wrote. (it worked for me even without the 4 lights!)

I had this problem on Oct 09, 2008. Turn X-Box off, disconnect the hard drive, restart it w/out hard-drive, play a game for a couple minutes, turn machine off. Then re-attach hard drive and power up. It fixes the problem in about 8 minutes.
I had this problem recently as well. I contacted costumer support annd they walked me thru the steps. first turn your 360 off. Then Disconnect all cables going into the xbox, Wait 10 seconds then reconnect them. turn it on and check to see if ur system recognizes a hard drive. If not turn off your xobx take off the hard drive and turn it on. The turn off yet again and reconnect hardrive. Turn on your xbox and it shud work fine.

Look, i know it seems weird, but just unplug everything and take out your hard drive and tap the hard drive on something and plug everything back in, i swear this worked for me.
Same problem here - turned my xbox on one day and it suddenly had one red light..
I put the hard drive in my mates 360 and same thing.. then i tried a fix from youtube by turning the console off then back on with HDD attached but AV plug detached, waited 10 secs, turned off, reattached video cable and voila drive is fine.... :D
I see no logical reason why this would fix the problem but hey these are M$ products so who knows..
All i did was remove the hard drive then turn on the xbox 360 and put the hard drive back on while the xbox was still on and it restarted itself and was fine,i hope this works for you
All I had to do was turn off my console, take my hard drive drive off, put it back on and then turn my console back on.
I had the error 68 myself. less then week old jasper with 20gb hdd. went to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917874/ and found a suggestion fix that works. REMOVE THE HDD while powered down of course, wait a few seconds and reattach it, then power up. It worked and i loaded up like normal. It may not fix all of the errors, but it seems to have fixed this problem for me. I didnt have any trouble till i updated the xbox with that blasted update from hell. >.> I dont even like microsoft, i just wanted a new generation system that was affordable atm.... seriously wish i hadnt sold my ps3 back when there were fewer great games out for it lol. But meh it happens. anyway there are some pretty good games out for all the new generation systems, i just hope Microblunder gets the issues with the xbox fixed before the next generation >.O
anyway remove the hdd, wait, reattach, power up. Hopefully that will fix it, so dont freak out, it might not be the rrod from hell just a hiccup from the update..... good luck guys.

Hard drive error need to open your hard drive.like a computer hard drive, u need to put a slave pin now it is in master single and it will work without taking out your hard drive (all save files will be lose)
Yeah if you have the E68 then just take your hard drive out start up your console to make sure its working then turn it off and make sure your hard drive is secure and snaps in the back and the front and restart your 360. If that doesnt work your hard drive is wrecked and you can send it to xbox to get it fixed.
This repair guide gives you ways to fix the problem yourself, easy and fast.
Good luck
3 red lights not a big problum go on to ebay and get the x kit for just £3 and fix your xbox its good and you dont have to send it away ha ha ha mikrosoft you will not be charging me agan
This is just a temporary fix, the system will red ring again after doing this fix! the only way to truely fix the rrod is to send it to microsoft!
This error is not related to the GPU BGA problem and fitting the x-clamp will not resolve this issue. Beside that the x-clamp fix is not the best solution to BGA problem anyway, nor the towel method! If you do ever want to resort to the x-clamp fix then you don't need eBay as anyone with a shed that has an 'odds and sods' tin full of screws, bolts and washers likely already has the parts required. When I tried it I used the bolts out of a rusty old bar-b-q in the garden and it worked fine!
Well actually it's to re-flow the Ball Grid Array below the GPU with a rework station. Microsoft arn't magic you know!

Ok i will help u guys. Turn your xbox360 off then take out the hard drive. Tap lightly on it for 10 secs. then place the hard drive back in it. turn on your xbox360 then it should work perfectly.
I called microsoft, and they said that E 68 with one red flashing light means your hard drive is screwed up. Your 360 will work fine, but when u plug your hard drive in it wont work and youll get the E 68 error message. Call XBOX customer support, and they'll tell you to send it to them and they'll repair it for free. In the meanwhile, buy a memory card and keep playing. Your game saves and other stuff will be lost though. The hard drive takes 3-4 weeks to be repaired.

By the way, my xbxlive gamertag is COMMANDO 13295
I just unplugged everything, then plugged everything back in and the console worked fine after that.
I tried solution #2 when I got e68 and now POS mircosoft xbox works again, but thas an american made product at its best.
The E68 message doesn't necessarily mean that your hard drive is corrupted, it might nearly just be that it isn't connected properly. Unplug your hard drive and plug back in. If it still isn't working then I'd consider giving Microsoft a call :)

I did what you guys said and it worked but it takes a long time to load everything and i saw that there was this unknown data in my memory it just had alot of numbers on it so i clicked it and my 360 froze and I deleted it but it doesnt go away. Can anyone help me if you know?
More often than not, the E 68 message occurs because of your hard drive not being attached to your Xbox correctly. The first step you should take is simply turning off your Xbox, taking out the hard drive, checking for any pieces that are out of place or stuck (this is what happened to my Xbox when it fell down from vertical position to horizontal position), and inserting the hard drive back in. If this doesn't work, I would contact MS
This happens to me nearly every other time I turn on the Xbox. What I do is turn it off, remove the HD, put the HD back on, and turn it on. 90% of them time, this works. The other 10% I just repeat the steps and it eventually comes around. Super annoying.
Right i turned on my xbox and he come up with a black screen saying contact xbox customr support and i took of the hardrive and turned it on and it worked but i had no memory on my exbox i read up but doeit really work?? if you just wanno play a game take the hardrive of and do what you would normally
I had the e68 problem to but i solved it by bloving dust of my hard drive ank the konsol area ver the hard drive is so e68 is a code theat tels you thet ther is conection problems whit your hard drive my problem goes in to teath catogory but still it is not 100% your problem but shek for dust any way.
if you havent removed you hard drive ones then it vil not posible be dust if you have famely members or frends theath like to teake on fings then i sugest to try my solution
Ok i have the same problem. this is what youll have to do.
as soon as you turn on the xbox press down on the harddrive pretty hard. continue to press untill it says youve loged in.
2.5" hard disks are very fragile. I should take caution 'pressing it hard' anywhere if you value ever seeing your data again. Besides if you have to press it hard that would suggest the problem lies with the male connector of the hard disk or the female connector of the x-box. Try buying some switch cleaner and spraying that on them (with the power off!) and gently rubbing with a soft good quality paint brush that doesn't loose it's bristles untill dry.

Best Way, Worked for me...
Turn your xbox on without a hardrive. When it gets on to the dashboard turn it off. Clip in your hardrive, then tip your xbox on the hardrive side(so the hardrive is facing the floor) turn it out, it shud work now. Then tip it back on to the normal way an xbox should sit. Then turn your xbox off and back on and it should work.
PLEASE NOTE, MAKE SURE THERE IS NOT A GAME IN THE DISC DRIVE AS THIS WILL DAMAGE THE DISC.
I had this happen to me a month ago in the mournig and i unpluged everything ,put my console on a chair then turned a fan on and when i came back from school the problem was done and has been going strong since
Ive had this problem (error e68) and found that the problem is with the fans. if you have an external fans remove it or ensure that you have installed it right ie put the leads on in the order. hope this helps as it worked for me.
I know this sounds weird, but ive had this error twice, and all ive had to do (i found it on youtube) is hit the hardrive on a hard surface on a certain spot.
There doesn't seem to be any other solution to the E68 problem than to buy a brand new xbox hard drive.
I had the error at one point and it was because my hard drive was slightly disconnected from the system.
Hard drive glitch or not working properly.disconnect hd and connect
I took my hard drive off my xbox and booted it, then put the hard drive back on while it was on and now it works fine.
When i got one red light, taking the hard drive off and replacing it always worked. i'm not sure if you have tried that, but you probably have, as microsoft thinks that the best way do diagnose a problem is to treat it randomly.
Wow thanks about the one red light my hard drive didnt work which ment no knights of the old rebubilic 4 me and i was pist off but at least my hard drive is getting fixxed
I found that disconnecting and reconnecting the cables worked very well, but I also went and put my 360 on a completely smooth, static free surface (it's on a Wii box at the moment), but it was previously on the carpet. I don't know why, but I found that lying it flat (as in, horizontal), prevented the red lights from coming up as well.
No, you do not have to send the Hard drive with a reciept. When you call, they will give a reference number and you must include with the hard drive. They will explain everything when you call them.
COMMANDO 13295~Be strong, be heroic, be a COMMANDO
The E 68 message combined with one red flashing light means the hard drive has been corrupted. take it off and try it again. You can call xbox and ask them to re-download what you have on there from xbox live. unfortunately your saved games will be lost.
If there are 4 red lights, it means a cable is unplugged, if 3 red lights, you have to send it to microsoft
Hello =)
I have another solution: Keep your Xbox turned on with the harddrive in it. Then disconnect your HDD. Hold it in your right hand and beat it on your left knee. Then reconnecz your HDD. It'll work fine. Don't ask me, why. =)

We just had this error and i agree with the majority on here. All we did (after panicking) was take the hd out with Xbox off. Turn Xbox on, load game. Turn Xbox off and put hd back in. Loaded fine and all data seems to be there.
The connection on our hd to Xbox is loose, nothing we can do about it but we presume this is why we got the error message. If you get this error you should probs go out, get a memory card and start backing up any important game data (such as rpg games with 100 hour play time etc)
I WOULD NOT TAP OR BANG THE HD ON ANYTHING. hard drives for anything are generally very fragile. I can imagine this would fix your hd.for a while but eventually cause more problems.
Thanks for everyone's comments as they really helped ^^_
Well i brought a game at christmas and i went to save the game and it said corrupted data then it Came up when i went to play it again and it said e68 looked up on the internet and it said e68 is messed up hardrive i got annoyed with that then i brought again 2 days ago and it come up with the same thing but when i took the disc back out it started working can someone tell me why this is
I also have the problem but only with one game i nvr can play it but my loading screen when u turn the xbox on it load alot lnger i just lost all the data to a game and weird glitches are happening like in one game(one i lost) i was controlling 2 ppl at once i loogged in the other controller i was with 3 ppl adn then it couldnt do anything but move around not evn pause the game if anyone know how to help with this id apreciat it
RiOT676's solution worked for me. Theres no reason why it shouldnt work for you either (Considering you have E 68 below the error message and one segment of red light on your light ring). Turn off, remove HDD, Put HDD back in, turn on. Simple.
SOURCE: One red light - Error: E 68 - Problem code 0110
Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it, This can also be caused by a Hard Drive Eprom Error.
