I need to know the best oil for my bike
Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell.

Could you take just a moment and rate my answer on your oil question?
A "very helpful" rating would be good. Thanks!
on this site, same question, different answer! confusing!!!! 10-30 oil recommended by other "fixya" expert... help!! who to believe????
It is not a big problem if you use 10-30 instead of 10-40. Especially in a smaller bike. I prefer the 10-40. Nothing bad will happen if you use the 10-30. The big thing is to change the oil every spring or every 3000 miles, whichever comes first. Clean oil means fewer problems.
If your in a cold climate use 0-30. Warmer or hot climates 10-40. jonhaddock below has a nice description of what not to use. What the manufacture states and recommend for oil change interval is a big NO. Change the oil every 1000 miles for cold climates and 700 miles for warm climates. These engines will last forever.

It depends on how you use the bike to some degree. If you are in the habit of starting from cold and immediately going to full speed and staying at full speed, a fully synthetic 0w-40 is the best oil for you in terms of engine wear.
If you start the engine and move off gently without labouring the bike, and rarely use full throttle or the top speed, then an ordinary 10w-40 will be sufficient, although because in all cases the synthetic 0w-40 will prevent engine wear the best, in terms of engine longevity due to reduced wear, a non car-brand specific 0w-40 will always be better than a mineral oil.
The Innova's manual says any oil with classification SG or higher. That INCLUDES synthetic. the only oils Honda say you must not use are one's marked with a sticker that says 'Energy Conserving. these oils are designed specifically for cars and have extra additives which reduce friction but can make the Innova's automatic clutches slip to much.
Normal synthetic like the Motorsport variants are absolutely fine.
These are what I term 'Non car-brand specific' oils.
They're fine in any wet clutch bike, any auto-clutch bike, like the Honda Innova, and the older passport/C90 etc etc.
However...The Innova has an engine specifically designed to cope with the heat generated by prolonged hard road use.
In comparison the older design Honda Passport/C90 was intended for a less harsh mix of on and off road environments and their engines don't stay as cool when ridden at full speed for extended periods so if those older machines are used in extreme conditions or you extend the oil change intervals considerably, synthetic oils are of definite benefit.
Bottom line. Honda say; Any oil that meets or exceeds SG classification or higher INCLUDING synthetics but NOT oils with Energy Saving or conserving stickers... Simple!
But an 0w-40 will always give higher protection against engine wear than a 10w-40 mineral oil.
