I have had my machine for over 12 months, with no problems. Suddenly the bootom tension is very loose. I have tried everything recommended to fix this and even tried tightening the bobbin case tension, but it is already at its tightest! I have tried adjusting the top tension but even at its lowest its still not balanced. I do not sew for a hobby I sew for a living and I cannot sew professionally with this tenion issue. please help!
Do you ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread? Try that. It is a very common problem with a very simple fix.
Usually, if a thread problem presents itself under the fabric, it is a top thread issue. If the thread problem appears on the top of the fabric, it is a bobbin thread issue.
NOTE: you may need to undo all the tension adjustments you have made to your machine.
When you say the bottom tension do you mean the thread on the bottom? The thread on the bottom of fabric is actually the top tension. If it is loose then turn the dial to a higher number. Turn at small increments each time.
If the thread on the top is loose it is the bobbin thread tension. The bobbin thread tension rarely needs to be adjusted. If you have tightened it up that much it probably needs adjustment now.
Start by adjusting the top tension a little and do a test. Do this until the stitches are no longer loose. Check to make sure you have the machine threaded correctly and the thread is between the tension discs.
The bobbin tension is set by that small spring plate that you pull the thread under after you put the bobbin back in the carrier / holder
a very small turn of that screw makes a big difference ob the tension unlike the needle thread tension
mostly the problem ( you never bothered to mention the symptom ) is bird nesting under the fabric which is the needle thread tension not tight enough

This is an answer to another person with a similar complaint. Try the suggestion below, it may fix the problem.
From your description it appears that you have tried tension settings on the upper tension control adjustment knob without success.
Check that the bobin tension is adjusted correctly by taking out the bobin complete with the spool.
Pull the cotton thread and it should be a smooth light pressure if the tension is correct. If it is tight to pull or pulls freely then adjust the tension screw which is found on the outside of the bobbin. The screw is very small and requires a minature size screwdriver. The adjustment will only be a slight turn of the screw one way or the other to obtain the correct tension(depending if it was loose or tight).
Once this is set reinstall the bobin and tread up the machine, hopefully with the upper tension set at approx."2" the machine will sew correctly.

Hi, general rule of thumb:: loops on the top, problem on the bottom.. Loops on the bottom, problem is on the top.. When threading your machine, stop just before you thread your needle, put the presser foot down. Try pulling the thread. If it pulls easily, the thread is not thru the tension wheel right. If it pulls hard, you got it right.

there is a screw on the side of the bobbin case, which needs to be turned to the left or counter clockwise to loosen the tension and also change the needle because a burr on the end will cause problems with bobbin thread
