There is no "perfect" setting that can be placed in a manual. It's all done by ear. Your settings will vary depending on the vehicle you are in, the type of enclosure you have, the type of music you listen too, how much voltage your deck put's out. There are many variables, but I can try to give you a basic guide.

First of all you need to know your enclosure. If you have a ported enclosure tuned in the mid to low 30's you may want to set the low pass to around 70-80 hz with your sub sonic set at 30 hz. this will give you the higher bass frequency you need for the loud bass you want, and protect the sub from going too far below the tuned frequency of the enclosure, and losing it's composure.

As far as the gain, and bass boost are concerned, you just have to adjust them by ear. First adjust the radio volume to normal listening levels, by that I mean as loud as it can go without the speakers in the car sounding like ****. Now you adjust the gain first. slow turn the gain control, carefuly watching and listening to the sub.. Adjust the gain to the point of the woofer getting a lil sloppy then back it down a bit until the sound is clean again. Now do the same with the bass boost. if there is a bass boost frequency adjustment, set that as close to the tuned frequency of the box as you can.

If you are in a sealed box the adjustments are a bit easier, and are all about taste. Adjust the radio as described before, and put on your favorite song. Next start udjust thing lowpass frequency to taste, not too high tho, try not us higher than 100 hz in your sub's for better sound. Sub sonic is not quite as important in a sealed box, as there is much less danger of the sub losing control.

Well good luck, and hope this helps!

My 13w7 pops loudly when i turn it up. it is in a 2 cu ft sealed box. what do i set my amp at to fix this? the amp is a 1000/1 jl

If your Subwoofer is popping it could possibly be blown. when your radio is off slightly push in on your speaker if it kinda crackles it is blown. If you are using a sealed box put it in the middle of the box. if it is ported it needs to be on the opposite side from the port

I HAVE A PDX 1000 WATT AMP AND IT KEEPS BLOWING MY 13W7 SUB... WHAT DO I NEED TO DO???

YOU ARE PROBABL;Y RUNNING THE AMPLIFIER INTO CLIPPING, WHICH IS A DANGEROUS OVERLOAD CONDITION THAT REALLY TENDS TO HEAT UP THE VOICE-COILS OF THE SPEAKER. IT IS QUITE POSSIBLE TO BURN A 1000 WATT SPEAKER WITH A SMALL 500 WATT AMPLIFIER IF IT IS ALLOWED TO RUN INTO SEVERE CLIPPING. YOU MUST LEARN TO UNDERSTAND WHEN THIS OCCURS BY CAREFULLY LISTENING TO THE MUSIC AND TONES AND RECOGNIZE THE NASTY SOUND OF CLIPPING THE AMPLIFIER. THERE IS SIMPLY NO SAFE WAY, AT THESE POWER LEVELS, TO SIMPLY TURN THE GAIN UP AND THROW THE RADIO INTO FULL THROTTLE. WHILE IT WILL SOUND AS IF THIS OFFERS THE HIGHEST VOLUME, IT IS NASTY AND THE SPEAKER WILL NEVER ACCEPT THIS CONDITION WITHOUT EVENTUALLY FAILING. THIS APPLIES TO ALL AMPLIFIER/SPEAKER SETUPS. LET ME KNOW IF I CAN BE OF FURTHER ASSISTANCE.....V

I have a 13w7 in a ported box 2 exact jl specs hooked up to a 1000/1 and added an ole school klw audio phantom bass processer to it,with the bass down and the phantom knob on heavy it sounds like thunder...

Could be a range of things, a capacitor drying out, dust burning off, its hard to define without knowing exactly what the smell is. Ensure its as well ventilated as possible and keep a close eye on it.

Mid level volume my sub starts poppin

Set your gains correctly. You are overdriving the sub, causing the voice coil to bottom out. Go to www.jlaudio.com and go to the support / tutorials section and it will have a tutorial in there that will tell you how to properly set your gains. The same information is also in the owners manual that should have come with your w7, and probably also says how in your amplifier owners manual.

Very little sound

make sure all your gains are turned up to atleast half.
Check your head unit, make sure your low pass frequency for the RCA's amp is set to high or set to more than 0. Make sure you don't have your fader set toward the front of the vehicle or you won't get any bass, but the subwoofer will be pulling only what the head unit is sending to the amplifier.
if that doesn't work I would try another pair of patch cables.
Do you have another subwoofer you can swap out to test your subwoofer with?
I have a subwoofer that has something wrong with the coil itself. Has your amplifier blown any fuses? If so the subwoofer coil is bad.
Also make sure you have a solid ground for your amplifier.
Hope this helps!
