If it is a recent model 2007 onwards, it may not be too successful, but you could try if absolutely necessary. Although not normally required, earlier filters can be gently washed by hand in a soapy solution, thoroughly rinsed and left to dry naturally.

Check the metal tubing for deposits. I washed out the tubes with hot water and detergent and got lots of gunk out. It smells like new.

My numatic Hoover is brilliant but it smells what part needs changing? It's not a burning smell, but a musky almost cabbage smell?

It could be the sponge filters or the dust partition that need replacing. But it might also be coming from the motor, best bet is to get it checked out.

Water in Henry vacuum cleaner motor.

I would say it's essential to open Henry up, otherwise (assuming he has indeed got water inside him) you will wait for ever for him to dry. He can be opened very easily - just undo the four recessed screws on the underside of his hat, and the upper part will lift off. Pay attention to the switch (or switches, depending on the model) as that may be more vulnerable to water penetration than the motor. The motor compartment may have water in it, but the motor itself is probably fairly well protected. When you've got it opened and mopped up any visible water, it will help to give it a blow with a hair dryer.
If in doubt, though, get a professional to deal with it. It pays not to mess with electricity if you're unsure!

My hoover smells of ammonia

Hello,
I too have a problem with a bad smell coming from my henry hound hoover, but thats probely because i haven't used a hoover bag. I took the cloth filter out, banged all the dust off, then sprayed it with 'RugDoctor' pet stain remover for carpets and upholstery. It still smells a bit, but not half as bad as befor. I have now ordered a reusable, zipable, washable cloth hoover bag especially made for Henry's. It cost £8.80 from ebay with free postage. Hope this helps Nikki.

Henry Hoover throwing trip switch in house

Sounds more likely to be the switch than the motor, especially if it is the model with the top switch rather than the side "rocker" switch. If you are in the UK, speak to the technical people at www.a1cleaningsupplies.co.uk they can post a replacement. Otherwise outside or even within the UK you can contact the manufacturers technical people. Website is www.numatic.com
