Compaq presario USB mouse freezes

I'll plug in a USB mouse which will work for a few minutes then freeze up. The touchpad still works but the mouse won't.

SOURCE: touchpad will not work

Hello, seems like a problem with the touchpad, first disable and enable the touchpad with the button which is located at the top of the touchpad, the corresponding LED should change from blue to orange and vice versa. If this doesn't solve the issue, reinstall the driver for the touchpad, you can find this by searching for 'recovery manager' in the start bar. Next step is to select 'advance options' and choose reïnstall hardware driver, there should be an option called 'Synaptics touchpad driver' select and install. kr Gijs

Boot your laptop. After the laptop shutdow and just at the screen light up, hit f1 or f2 key to enter any setup screen. Then hit F10 to exit. after reboot, your touch pad should come back. It worked for me many times.

SOURCE: I bought Compaq Presario CQ56

a machine that new I would defiantly take it back and have it either fixed or replace, time is on your side i would take advantage of the manufacture warranty. i would also look on the keyboard see if there is a mouse locking feature, its normally the picture of a mouse on one of your function keys, press function and the key with the mouse icon on it and that may take care of it.

Well the best thing to do is to start testing your hardware, you could have a problem with your hard drive, or your ram, or your video card, or your usb ports or cable's. You can make diagnostic cd's easily by using these free downloadable utilities:
http://www.memtest86.com/download.html This utility is a classic and works great for testing the ram in your computer.

http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/ This is a seagate hard drive diagnostic utility that works on all types of hard drives to test that part of your computer.

http://mikelab.kiev.ua/index_en.php?page=PROGRAMS/vmt_en This is a video card testing bootable image.
If those pass, you can disable the usb ports on your computer from your bios potentially, and or crack open your computer and disconnect them if they are connected to the motherboard with cables :)

Testimonial: "Thank you Chris, this is very helpful."

Synaptics touchpad not working properly

Hmm give this method a try. Turn off computer remove AC power adapter. Remove the battery and press the power button for 30 seconds continuously. This removes the static from the system. This process is called as Power drain. This works in most of the cases. Good Luck !!!

Mouse running away

Does this model have both the touchpad AND the little eraser-head pointer affixed in the keyboard?

If so, wiggle the eraserhead pointer thoughout its entire range of motion several times. Don't be afraid of it.

No eraserhead?

Your touchpad is defective. Replace, or disable it in the bios and use an external touchpad or optical mouse. Get one that has a USB plug.

Any device connected through the usb ports causes the computer to freeze. I've reloaded the O.S and other drivers but it still does the same thing.

the best way is not to use usb mouse because 85% problems created by usb mouse.
if you want to use usb mouse and other things the good way is to buy a 4-port hub and plug the usb mouse in it and other things. and hope it will work for you
