Printer displays ready but the computer says printer is offline
It sounds to me like you may be using this printer through the JetDirect interface and have the printer assigned a different IP address than what the computer is expecting. For example, if the computer is configured to find the printer at 192.168.1.205 and the printer has an address of 192.168.1.120, you will see the "printer offline" message on the computer but the printer is happily "online" according to its point of reference.
Another possibility is that the computer has the printer configured to "offline" mode. To check this, right-click on the printer and see whether there is a check mark next to "Use Printer Offline." If so, click on that option and that will remove the check mark, returning the printer to online status.

You can try to do a "Cold reset" turn off the printer hold down the Menu/reset button and turn it back on. Do you hear the machine go into rotation? the 4 plus has a high pitch sound follwed by the fuser turning ( you'll know when it does it) if it doesn't go into rotation then there is another problem.

buy the adaptor for this these ports are called lpt ports they make adapters to run down to size
they also make a lpt printer port switch this is connected easy connect from printer to switch one printer cord then buy 2 other printer cords to hook to other computers
this is not a converter this is a switch
the printer cords can either be made on spot at most computer store or bought from fry's electronics they always have these in stock the proper lines your looking for

SOURCE: Printer status offline
I just ran into the same problem. The computers on the network that were running XP were showing the printer as "Ready", but all of the computers running Vista were showing the printer as "Offline".
After trying a number of solutions that I found on other message boards, I accidentally discovered that the problem was an IP address conflict. It seems that the server changed the address on the printer, which didn't bother the XP machines but brought the Vista machines to their knees.
Press and hold the blue button (HP called it the "Go" button) for 5 seconds, which will print a configuration report. In the TCP/IP section you will see the IP address for the printer. Next, open the Printers window, right-click on the P2015 and click Properties. Click the Ports tab. Find the port that is checked and click the "Configure Port..." button. If the "Printer Name or IP Address" field differs from the IP address on the configuration report, change it to the one on the report. It took a few seconds after hitting OK for the computer and prrinter to link up again, but that solved the problem for me.

Go to control panel, then select printers. Then, from the list of printers (if you have more than one), right click on your printer and make sure "Use printer Online" is checked.
Hope this helps.
