Riccar stretch 500fa Needle won't pick up thread from bobbin

I inherited the machine from my Mother and had the sewing machine cleaned and oiled a couple of years ago. It worked like new and was a joy to sew on. I used it to do some sewing and then the next year I was unable to get it to sew...first it acted like the needle was bent or stuck at a certain point...I have replaced the needle now it still doesn't take the top thread down far enough to pick-up the thread from the bobbin. I have checked the manual to see that the top thread is in correctly and then taken the bobbin out of the machine and reset it step-by-step according to the manual...the machine still does not pick-up the bobbin thread

Check to make sure you are using the correct needle for the machine, that it is a brand-new needle, and that is installed facing the correct direction. Other than that, it's quite possible the machine was knocked out of time and needs service.

SOURCE: Top thread won't pick up the bobbin thread

re insert the needle, maybe you did not put the needle up as far as it is to go. Make sure the flat side of the needle is to the back of the machine. Without any thread in the machine hand turn the wheel and look to see if the hook of your bobbin would/could catch the thread (to see if timing is right)
then thread the machine and hand turn the wheel and see what it is doing.
Your timing might be off, but I do not think that is likely. Though it is possible that when the needle fell out, it hit something hard, broke, and pushed the machine out of timing. then you need to bring it in.

SOURCE: Machine will not pick up the bobbin thread.

if your machine's needle threads from front to back, make sure that the flat part of the needle shank points to the rear of the machine. If it threads from left to right, the flat side should face right, etc.

SOURCE: I have a Singer Special Zig Zag Model 418. I can

More than likely you have a broken vertical shaft gear.

When you turn the handwheel you should see the sewing hook moving under the bobbin case.

If not, take it to a sewing repair person and it should cost somewhere around $100 to repair.

SOURCE: looping underneath

I watched a 'You Tube' demo that showed ........if you loosen or tighten the very small screw at the base of the bobbin this gives you the correct tension & stops the looping under the fabric........I didn't even know this screw existed ! It is trial & era at first re the correct tension but you do get there.... the art is to do it in small mini stages.....like you hardly move it ! Thanks to 'You Tube' I can now get on and finish my drapes !

I have a Riccar 500FA. The upper thread will not pick up the bobbin thread. I have oiled, cleaned, checked the needle installation, the bobbin installation and the needle is brand new.

needle/hook timing needs adjustment
accredited service agent can fix or any sewing machine service shop should be able to do the job

I have a Riccar 706. I can't get the upper thread to pick up the Bobbin thread. What do I need to do?

Install a brand new needle (confirm it is installed facing the correct direction).

If it still doesn't pick up the bobbin thread, the machine is probably out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

My machineis not pickingup thread underneath not sewing

Install a brand new needle and verify it is installed correctly.

If it is still not picking up the bobbin thread, then most likely the machine is out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

My riccar 1900 won't thread; needle to bobbin

First make sure the bobbin-winding spindle (located on top of your machine) has been pushed back to the left for sewing.
If it is not in the correct position, the needle will not go down and pick-up your bobbin thread.
Next make sure your needle is inserted correctly, with the flat side facing back.
Also, make sure your bobbin is in correctly
the upper tension disks of your machine are threaded correctly.
Make sure the presser foot is up when seating the thread through the upper tension.
Turn the handwheel towards you only and hold the needle thread lightly.
If this doesn't help solve your problem, the machine may have a timing problem.

Make sure that the area is clean and free of lint. Change the needle and rethread the machine.

Will not pick up bobbin thread

you might check your needle to see if it's damaged
make sure you have a least a 3-4 inch thread tail for top & bobbin
try holding the top thread tail & manually move the handwheel on the right side of the sewing machine to lower the needle to the bobbin area & see if that works.
make sure there is no lint or loose threads in bobbin area
