Sony kv-36fs16 Can turn on tv. Always on channel 4, no other buttons work to change channel except the menu button works and can go up/down but not side to side! Remote non responsive does not work at all tried new remote! was told could be the tuner itself. But the buttons on top dont work nor the bottom

You can autotune your Sony TV without a remote control. Fist connect it to an external antenna or cable whatever may be, to its antenna socket at the back side.

After you have finished connecting your TV, you can use Auto Program to set up your

channels. During Auto Program, the TV will automatically search for available channels and
program receivable channels.

[1] Press POWER button on the TV to turn it on. The Initial Setup screen appears.

[2] Press CH+ button on the remote control or on the TV front panel to start Auto Program, or press CH-- button to exit.

The Initial Setup screen appears each time you turn on the TV until you perform Auto Program.

To perform Auto Program again

1 Press"MENU" button on the front panel of your TV.
2 Press "RIGHT ARROW button to highlight Channel Menu.
2 Press DOWN ARROW BUTTON to highlight CABLE or ANTENNA AND PRESS [+} to select.

4 Press UP arrow or DOWN arrow to highlight On or Off according to how you connected your TV. Press [+] to select.

4 Press F or f to highlight On or Off according to how you connected your TV. Press to
select
5 Press DOWN arrow button to highlight Auto Program. Press [+]to search for channels
6 After Auto Program finishes, press MENU button to exit.

you need to change the control board or the touch buttons

Your TVs front control buttons are inoperative except menu button. There are microswiches fitted inside the main board of your tv from which shafts ar extented towars the front of the cabin where you press to access the functions. Replace all the micro swiches inside at onetime. It won't cost more. Micro swiches as they have said is mini swiches, which can get damaged easly with high pressure thumb or impact put on it.

I found online that these televisions have a problem with the button panels shorting out. I pressed all the button on the television; when I would press the buttons, the favorites screen would appear. I'd press it again and it would dissappear. This would work for all the buttons except for the menu and the button below it on the bottom of the T.V. screen. I took off the back of the television and looked at the circuit boards. I removed the wire connector fot the top button panel, from the main circuit board, and op checked to see if the television would change channels with the remote. NOPE. So, my only other option was to pull off the little rectangular buttons from the circuit board for the bottom of the T.V. If it didn't work I was going to throw the T.V. away anyway. I know it sounds crazy, but it worked. I don't know how much it would cost to have someone troubleshoot and replace the pieces, but I'm not worried about it. I can still change the channels with the top buttons and adjust menu options with the remote now. The buttons that didn't work, the menu and *, the piece was corroded. However, just breaking this one off didn't work; I had to break off the piece for the up and down arrows. I'm not a specialist, but it worked for me.

Press " i " (info) button on Sony TV Remote so on-screen display will disappear.

THER ARE NUMEROUS THINGS THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED YOUR PROBLEM. TAKE IT IN TO A SONY AUTHORIZED SERVICER

Apparently, channels have to be autoprogrammed first before those buttons will work.

Our TV is 4 years old but we never used the channel buttons bc it was always hooked up to DirecTv thru video input. SO when we disconnected the TV to sell, we thought it was a problem.

sounds like it needs to be switched to cable mode. go in to your menu look for something like STD Cable.

check D1004 5v zener diode, if defective it can cause you this type of problem, also check D1003 and D1005.

these diodes are located in HS board, the one where all your front button are located in. by the way the HS board is no longer availableffrom sony

I had the same problem and found out that it wasn't making a good connection inside the the Directv box.The box was changed and that solved the problem.
