Customizer's reader/writer 2000 quit working

I've had my reader/writer since 1995.  Ran it on both desktop and laptop.  Both on PC and on a Mac running Fushion.  It's been used on Windows 95/95/XP.  Ran it on both desktop and laptop.  Both on PC and on a Mac running Fushion.  Never had a problem with it until last year.  When trying to upload or download information on the reader card I kept getting the Communication Error/Serial port error message.  At some point I remember finding an upgrade for the reader writer from Version 1.0 to ?.. but I'm not sure whether I did that before or after the problem, because since I connect (always have) with a serial to usb connection I attibuted the problem to a bad cable.  I got a new cable and it started working  for just a bit and then only after a very short time I started getting the message again.  I really need the program to work as I can't afford an upgraded machine (wish I could).  I thought maybe it's the serial cable that goes to the reader/writer but I can't find a parts source for it or even a new box.  I've also noticed that alot of the posting were around the same time so I wondered also if maybe some microsoft security update has screwed with the installation software. Anyway I hope someone can help.  Or send me the money for a new machine.  It basically renders the embroidery part of the Janome 9000 as useless.

I used a cable from radio shack. Serial to USB Adapter Cable. The last one was Gigaware and cost about 30.00 bucks. After further investigation I decided it was not that cable. I couldn't find a replacement cable that actually goes to the reader/writer box. I did find where I could order a new box for about $1000.00. So I decided if I was going to spend that much I would look for a low end machine to replace mine. Got one for around 1350.00 and plan to upgrade in a year. I love my Janome and there is a MC350E..which is just an embroidery machine. Since my 9000 still works I can use it for sewing. Of course, I actually ended up purchasing a brother innovis 1200 that sew and embroiders also. I just wanted to try a little something different. I still love my Janome. I wish I would have gotten the MC350E.

I am having the same problem with the Customizer 2000. Worked before but now I get a "communication error". I'm thinking the problem is with the cable. You mentioned you got a new cable. Can you tell me what kind you got and where you got it? I don't know what else could fix the problem. Thanks for your help. I wish I could help you.

My VIP customizing reader writer box suddenly

Does your reader require a dongle/hard key? If so is it fitted correctly into the machine?

If that isn't the case perhaps an email to Viking/Husky is in order.

I have 3D Customizing and the newer reader/writer. The dongle works. The reader/writer is not found is what Customizing says. I have Windows 7 - any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

3D will not run properly on a Windows 7 computer. The USB reader/writer will work fine with 5D software.
Trust me, I have tried extensively to get 3D to run on Windows 7. I ran it on Vista, for a while. Then an update to Windows ended that. I've never had it function normally on Windows 7.

My Janome customizer 2000 will not write to the scan card. It says that it will not recognize the serial port.

Hi, I have the same problem with mine. Janome have not been very helpful. I didn't know if it was the card or the card reader/writer. I have a Janome CX500. Have you solved any of the problems?

Program installed on Laptop Vista and will not find Reader/Writer

Uninstall it. Then Re-install it in "Compatability Mode for XP SP2" Also run it in "Administrator Mode". That is your only shot at making it go. It is NOT designed for Vista.

I have a windows XP computer and I am trying to get to read r/w

Being as you have xp looks like you will have to go to viking site and download a patch to make it compatable, I have a Janome and when we upgraded the computer I had to go to the janome site and download upgrade, the same would apply to the customizing software I would think.

Customiser 2000 will not connect to a laptop as it has a 9 pin serial port (female) and the laptops have a 15 pin (female) I have bought 2 different cables but none work it just says serial port did not...

Are you using a USB-to-serial adapter?

I *think* what the problem might be is that the COM port's not been set in Customizer. Within either of the Easy/Customizer apps, go to ScanCard>Communication Settings ... you'll open up a dialog box within which you can set which COM port your cable's going to use.

If you're compie savvy, you can go to the Windows Start button on Task bar>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>COM ports and SEE which COM port your cable's using.

But until your software knows what COM port your cable's using it will NOT recognize that you have one installed.

Please let me know if this doesn't help! Or if there's anything I can help with!! :)
