Air or gas leaking from freezer in Haier mini fridge

I have a Haier mini fridge and the small freezer inside gets massive ice build up. I usually knock the ice out every few months. Today I was doing that and poked a hole in the bottom of the freezer. It did not go all the way through but now sounds like air is coming out and I smell gas. Is there a way to fix the leak or stop the leakage?

You cannot repair an aluminum evaporator ( freezer ) . The only way to repair , is to replace the evaporator . This is not feasable , due to repair cost . Some will say epoxy will work , it will only work for a while , then refrigerant will leak out . I would suggest just buying another fridge .

Question: is that gas that is leaking poisonous?
I did the exact same thing. I will need to repair it but I need more info on what a sealed system repair is or what it entails.

How do I fix water leak from the Kenmore Coldspot side-by-side refrigerator

I would say or ask how is ur defrost timer working as this seems to indicate that ur build up of ice is more than normal hence u have more water build up that should usually be evaporating from the compressor heat and ur drain pan should not be so full. some other things to consider are below:
Freezer /fridge water/ice in fridge and or freezer

Usually due to CONDENSATION due to bad door seals or a plugged evaporator drain line? Can use a soft flexable tubing and very hot water to clean it out. Bad door seals usually need replacement, but u can use a blow dryer and something to pry it closer to the door wall while blowing hot air on to it. To create a seal, to test for bad door seals place a dollar bill in between the door and wall of fridge where it closes. Then slide out the dollar bill with door closed. It should offer some resistance and not be easy to pull out.
Most all fridges have a drain. Look inside your fridge for a "V" shaped channel with a small hole. This hole leads to a tube and a small pan which sits on top of your refrigerator's compressor. The defrost cycle causes water to run into the channel, down the tube, and then it generally evaporates with the heat of the hot condenser/compressor.
However, if that tube is clogged with food crumbs, particles , debris etc, you will have to clear it to get back to a normal mode of operation. A toothpick, pipecleaner, straw or a cotton bud can often do the trick.
Even a frost free freezer will still ice up at times in the areas away from the heated defrost area and the drain line can freeze. This icing causes the pipe work to the compressor to ice over or sweat and cause a puddle. Or if the drainage has frozen over, it will need to be de-iced. ( usually the line is under the freezer bottom plate covering. Towards the back of the unit) And there is another inside the fridge area also.
Give the freezer a good overnight defrost until it's totally clear of ice in addition to making sure the drain is clear to the pan at the back and then restart the freezer.
God is so good: so this is why I give free advice so please thank him not me.

u can test the defrost timer as well

Model acd2234hrs amana is getting a lot of ice build up through outn the freezer all food in freezer has layer of ice on it

Check that the fan is running at the back of the freezer section. If it isn't, the freezer will continue to get colder but as the air is not moving around the cabinet, you get areas of ice buildup. The fan is usually at the top of the back panel, With the fridge unplugged, remove the panel in front of the fan motor. You can otherwise check if the fan is running by pressing the door switch whilst the freezer door is open. If the fridge is running, when you press the switch, the light should go out and the fan should start.

don't mess about with it just remove items and get a new one sound like its leaked it's gas (BUT DON'T PANIC) its not harmful and its not going to blow up! you could call a engineer but a lot of the time your just as good putting that money towards a new one

Freezer has massive ice build up, refrigerator not cooling , no cold air thru chute

Possible that the auto defrost timer is not working and so the massive frost build up. This prevents the air to flow from vent to the fridge.
The auto frost must work on a determined setting of the timer cycle as the frost must clear so that the whole fridge is efficient.
So check the timerr which is normally placed in the rear bottom and is connected to the heater and is also inline with the thermostat.

Oklahoma Freezer cold fridge warm fan gets Ice build up !

You should not have to manually defrost. Your auto defrost system is not working. Check the timer usuall in the frig compartment near the thermostat ( a small hole, use a screwdrive flat tip 1/4" to rotate the timer till it clicks starting the defrost cycle) check freezer in 10-15 min should be defrosted if not you will need to check the heater and thermostat located behind the rear or bottom panel of the freezer.

The defrost timer could be under the box in the front behind kick panel or in the rear by the compressor.

Not keeping food cold and popping noise

There is ice buildup in an area that you cannot see.

The interior wall may "bulge" a little if the ice builds up a lot.

1. You may have the cooling dial set too high (use lower numbers)
2. The blower vent into the fridge or freezer maybe blocked (move items away from vents inside)
3. Defrost the fridge. The water pan underneath the refrigerator may overflow.

If there is no "defrost" setting, unplug for an hour (don't open refrigerator or freezer during defrost)

Plug back in, food will not spoil.

Ice build up on coil inside freezer

it can be two things the refrgerator probably has a small refrigerant leak therefore it ices up, or the defrosting heater on the begining of the coil is faulty.
