Broun iron (model SI6285) quit working

My broun iron (model SI6285) quit working. The power light is off. It worked intermitently before it shut down for good. I opened the back cover and pulled out a rubber molded module, which I suspect is faulty. I have two questions: 1. Where to buy replacement parts? and 2. Is it worth messing with the "black box" molded device?

Small appliances nowadays aren't really designed to be taken apart. Most likely there wont be replacement parts, you are probably better off just buying a new one.

Premature shutting off

Have you try with lower heat setting?
It seems like it might be thermostat or thermal fuse that is not working properly.

I have a Rowenta Pro. Iron, model DE-86.1A with auto shut-off. It sticks on auto shut-off. I have to move it around for it to heat up, as indicated by the sensor light on the top.

I believe that is how the safety feature works.

Once the iron detects no movement for a certain period of time (the iron assumes you have finished ironing) the iron will shut of the heating element.

One you have moved it around, the timer should prevent it from auto shutting down for a period of time.

Autoshut off red light keeps flashing

I had the same problem and eventually removed the tilt sensor. This is the molded board that you see when you open the back of the iron. By removing it, you will also loose the timer off function. The thermostat will still be operational.

Rowenta won't shut off automatically

Unless you have a 5 or 6 hundred dollar iron, or unless it is brand new, and still under warranty, there is an excellent rule of thumb when an iron quits working: Buy a new one! These days, irons can be purchased cheaply enough that it is WELL worth the money. Not just for the convenience, but for the safety issues. This is an appliance that could burn your house down even if it's in PROPER working order. Hope this helps!!
