SOURCE: How do you replace the walking platform on the
First, remove the motor hood. There are 3 screws at the front, and 2 underneath. The screws underneath will have to be removed by tipping the treadmill over, or pulling the console towards the rear of the machine.
Next, remove the side rails. This is a little tricky because of the cushion adjusters on each side of the deck. If you look underneath the deck, you will see that the adjusters are on rails that are attached to the platform. Remove all of the screws from the side rail and push it toward the rear of the machine while also moving the adjusters rearward. You'll have to kind of move them together until the adjuster slides off the rail. Do both sides.
Remove the rear roller, by loosening the bolts. Don't mess with the front roller unless you intend to replace the motor belt. You don't need to remove the front roller or the walking belt.
There are 4 bolts holding the deck to the frame. The rear ones go through the frame to a lock nut. The front bolts screw into the isolators. Remove them and the deck will come loose. You can slide it out from the walking belt.
Place the new deck next to the old, and start moving the parts over. Make sure the safety decal is on the bottom like the old deck. All of the holes are pre-drilled except for the belt guides. You'll have to measure for these. Now do everything in reverse to reassemble the machine. I'm also attaching instructions on how to adjust the belt.

First, ensure that it is the walking belt that is loose.
There is a belt hidden under the hood that connects the front roller to the
motor (motor/drive belt). Start the
treadmill at 3 or so and carefully apply pressure to the walking belt until it
slips/stops. Watch the front
roller. If it continues to spin when the
walking belt stops, it’s the walking
belt. It the front roller stops with the
walking belt, the motor belt is
loose and needs adjusted or replaced.
To adjust the walking
belt, locate 2 hex head bolts, one on either side of the deck on the very back of
the machine. These bolts will be
recessed inside the plastic covers. Your
treadmill came with a tool for this,
but if you can’t find it, a standard
(not metric) allen wrench kit will work.
It’s helpful to have a wrench in each bolt so that you can adjust them
at the same time, but one will work.
The allen bolts
thread directly through each side of the rear roller. As you tighten the bolts, it pulls the rear roller away from the front
roller, tightening the walking
belt. This also centers it; if you
tighten one bolt, it pushes the belt
towards the center of the walking deck away from the bolt you’re tightening. So if the belt is too far to the right, tighten the right bolt and it will move towards
the center.
Place your wrenches
in the roller bolts and turn the machine on to 3-4 miles an hour. Keep your fingers clear of the belt, it will eat them.
This method is quick, because
you can see the belt move as you tighten one side or the other. It takes a few seconds,
but if you tighten the right bolt for instance,
you will see the belt move to the left.
If the belt is loose but centered,
tighten each bolt ½ turn and then get on the machine and see if it slips. The user manual will tell you to pull it up a
couple of inches to test the tightness,
which is a relative method and doesn’t necessarily work. My wife can pull on the belt and get 2 inches, and I can probably get 3 or even 4 if I’m showing
off. The best way to test it is to
gradually tighten it until you can run on it without it slipping.
You should lube the
belt a couple of times a year. You can get them from iconfitness.com
Good Luck!

Unplug the unit remove the motor shroud inspect the drive belt if the rubber feel slick then my recommendation is to replace the drive belt. Adjusting the drive belt may take care of the problem if you do not need to adjust it too tight. If you choose to do the adjusting and feel you have adjusted the running belt thinking it would resolve the slipping, then back the tension down until it the running belt is slipping then adjust until the slippage is resolved.

It sounds like reed switch inside the side panel located on the frame by the large pulley either needs to be adjusted or replaced. Try adjusting the switch first the clearance between the switch and large pulley magnet will be 1/8" if you have the same result then replace the switch.

If everything on the display console is working correctly then we know it is either a problem with the wires from the console to the controller or the controller itself. In most cases this means you need a new controller. To verify, take off the motor hood and find the green circuit board called the motor controller. With the power on go into manual mode and push the speed up button to a slow speed. If you see an LED light with "spd ctrl" next to it flickering but the belt still does not move then we know the problem is with the controller sending the signal to the walking belt, in which you should check the wires that go to the motor. If they are connected correctly then we know a new controller is in order. If you do not see a flickering light then it means the speed signal never got there and the problem will be with the wires going from the console to the controller. This is called an upright wire harness.

Watch this video: o 1 Ensure that the treadmill is plugged into a grounded outlet using the correct surge suppressor. Use a UL 1449 suppressor listed as a transient voltage surge suppressor (TVSS). It must be rated for 15 amps and 120 volts AC. Secure the services of an electrician if the outlet is not grounded, or move the Proform treadmill near a grounded outlet. Do not use an extension cord. o 2 Insert the safety key fully into the display. Treadmills with keys are designed not to turn on without the safety key in place. o 3 Find the circuit breaker on the front of the frame and make sure it is not tripped. The circuit breaker is a vertical switch on the 540S and a horizontal switch on the 540 Interactive Trainer. Press it to the "Reset" position, which will be labeled. o 1 Unplug the treadmill and remove the safety key. o 2 Move the upright base of the treadmill down with the help of another person and lift the uprights so that you can get to the underside of the console. Use a Phillips screwdriver with at least a 5-inch shaft to remove the screws. There are five hood screws on the 540 Interactive trainer and four screws on the 540S. o 3 Remove the motor hood to get to the small reed switch by pivoting the hood off the frame. Find the reed switch and magnet, which are on the left side of the pulley for both models. o 4 Turn the pulley with your hand until the reed switch aligns with the magnet. There should be 1/8-inch gap between the two. Fix the distance so that it is 1/8 inch by loosening the reed switch screw and sliding it to the correct distance. Tighten the screw. o 5 Reverse the directions to put the hood back on and the treadmill upright in the original position.
