SOURCE: need help on my TP-LINK TL-WR740N 150Mbps Wireless

Here's a GuessYa. Make sure you have the correct and exact DNS servers. If you screw them up, you'll be able to get cached pages, but new pages or functions will crash. It's a funny thing when you find it for the first time :-)

Change the browser settings on your computer, so that when you open an web page no animations, graphics, video, sound or other multimedia content appears.

The multimedia features usually take up a lot of bandwidth space.

Turn off your media browser settings by selecting the control panel option on your computer and opening up the internet options.

When the internet options come up, left click the tab that says "advanced" and scroll down to multimedia. Deselect the multimedia options and save your changes.

Clear out unnecessary information in your Cache and Cookies within your browser. Cache and Cookies work to store information from the internet like passwords and log-ins.

However, they also take up a lot of bandwidth space. Click the tools tab in your browser, select "Clear Recent History" and then select which files you'd like to clear.

Press ENTER or CLEAR NOW an then save your settings

Visit sites like SpeedTest.net to test your bandwidth.
Speed Test provides a free broadband connection analysis that test a user's internet speed against other servers.

Click the Begin Test icon and notate the bandwidth speed test results.

Most often when you sign a internet contract you are guaranteed a certain speed that your computer will operate at.

The results presented are a user's download and upload bandwidth speeds. These results allow you to measure how fast your computer is downloading and uploading information.

Look at your internet contract with your service provider.
Compare the notated Speed Test results against what your bandwidth is supposed to be according to your contract.

If your modem is operating under speed, contact your service provider and have the representative reset the bandwidth or make a request to upgrade to a faster modem.

Hard wired ethernet is much faster than wireless

When your ISP offers you a 1Mb connection, its megaBits not MegaBytes.

So for a rough guide of how MUCH you can download, divide by eight. i.e. 1Mb speed = 128KB of data.

So its normal for you to get 1.0-1.10 mbps download speed for the 10MBps connection that

you have

hope this helps

TL-WR641G/TL-WR642G parental lock

This router doesn't support parental controls, however it does have domain filtering which lets you block specific domains. To log into your router.
  • Open a command prompt.
  • Start, type CMD and press enter
  • Type ipconfig
  • Note the "Default Gateway", this is your routers address.
  • Type this address into a web browser address bar. (Ex: 192.168.0.1)
  • Log into your router, enter any username and/or password.
  • If you never configured one and it asks its probably one of the following. (admin/admin, admin/password) You can also google your model + default login and you should find it's default)
  • Once logged in go to the security > domain filter

Here is the routers user guide if you need more info. Feel free to comment back if you need further help.
