Chances are the oil and sweat from your fingers have gotten under the buttons, the oil film insulates the contacts and they stop working. or work intermittently. Open it up, clean all the contacts on the circuit board (q-tip & rubbing alcohol), as swell as the bottom of each button, then reassemble.

PrimeFilm 1800u will not work on Windows 8.

Hello, This scanner will not be supported on windows 8, all of our USB 1.0 technology scanner will no longer be supported beyond Windows 7.

If you take the motor off, you will see a metal cover behind the gear, inside that cover is some plastic gears that have rubber insulators. Most likely those insulators are broken up and when you put a load on the motor such as working the window, the insulators allow the two gears to disengage. Look on ebay for ford window motor repair kit.

Go ahead and try anyway. A ruined film is far cheaper than a useless camera or a professional repair. In any case, if the film hasn't loaded properly it will only be the first short length of film which is ruined. As this is a newly loaded film you haven't any risk of losing any undeveloped photos.

Auto spooling film systems are great when they work, but sometimes are a real pain and some cameras seem really picky about having a film leader of precisely the right length. See if you can engage the the film onto the spool manually.

Do you get a signal if you stand outside?

If you do and you can't get a signal inside the house then you may be in a building with a high standard of thermal insulation using aluminium foil in the walls and roof (depending on the country you are in). Modern windows use a thin copper film (kappa glass) to reflect infra-red radiation back into the room but it also blocks radio signals.
