what kind of cabling do you use for the output on your set and this could also be a internal sound processing issue they ultimately made the features of the usb limited hope this helps

I think you left a few characters out of the model number. If your TV is a UN32EH5300FXZA, then Samsung has the manual on the product support site: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/UN32EH5300FXZA . Hi,
Based on the user manual for your TV, I don't believe you can play media from a USB device on your 39in model.
The USB port on the TV is used for the 'Time Shift' feature on your TV (which allows you to pause, play and rewind broadcast TV).
I do not believe your TV can play digital media without a device providing video output.

I am assuming you are using the USB (HDD) port and the hard drive has its own power adapter connected. The actual menu operation is provided in the user manual available from this site and USB connection with HDD is described under Photo and Media.
