I have a 32" SONY Trinitron that blinks on and off. More so when you first turn in on and when it warms up it will blink every 30 sec. or so... The little red indicator light is flashing in 5 time cycles. Is there anything that I (average Joe) can do or do I need to call a repair man. Cost wise, would I be better off buying a new one? We really like this TV and would hate to see it go into the landfill.
Thanks,
Todd

Hello maymet,
This sounds like the HV protection circuit is cutting off the TV due to a high current event in the set. This could be a problem in the High Voltage section of your TV (Horizontal output transistor, Integrated High Voltage Transformer, and y of the deflection components, and or the CRT in cases of shorts).
I would suggest that if you do not have a background in electronics, you should have an experienced TV technician troubleshoot and repair this problem.
This is due to the nature of the dangerous voltages that are present in the television.
I hope this helps,
Thank you,
