Remote fobs stopped working

Both fobs stopped working at the same time. I assume this points to a system issue rather than a fob based problem.

SOURCE: Boot will not unlock with the remote button from key fob

Yes, this is what makes the Germans so cool!

Step one, replace battery in key foob. If that doesnt work proceed to next step.

Your BMW has a central locking system overide solution.

insert your main key into the driver door. before turning the key lift the door handle as if your opening the door, then turn the key all the way clockwise....it should go further than it ever has....it should make all the door latches POP! If this doesnt work, Try it while turning the key counterclockwise.

If this doesnt work, make sure you have your radio code and take off the negative battery cable overnight on your car. Then attach it after 12 hours and repeat above steps.

This should work, this is what they will do at the dealer and charge you about $700 :-)

Why are my key fobs not working on my 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo XLT?

To better answer your question it helps to know if the key fobs worked before and just stopped working, or if you bought a new key fob.

If you bought a new key fob you must program it to your vehicle. Here are the key fob programming instructions for a 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo:

NOTE: 2O11 & newer vehicles must be programmed by an automotive locksmith or dealership.
PROCEDURE #1
THIS PROCEDURE IS FOR VEHICLES WITH THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. IT WILL BE A BUTTON TO THE RIGHT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WITH A VEHICLE ICON AND THE LETTER i.
  1. Insert key and switch the ignition ON (just shy of starting vehicle without cranking engine)
  2. Press vehicle information button until PRESS TO RELEARN REMOTE KEY is displayed.
  3. Press the set/reset button (button will have a check mark) until REMOTE KEY LEARNING ACTIVE is displayed. Vehicle is now in programming mode.
  4. Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time on first remote for approximately 15 seconds. An acoustic signal will be heard indicating successful programming.
  5. Repeat step 4 to program additional remotes. You can have up to 8 programmed remotes for this vehicle. You must program ALL remotes including existing remotes.
  6. To exit programming mode turn ignition OFF, remove key and test all remotes.
PROCEDURE #2
THIS PROCEDURE IS FOR VEHICLES WITHOUT THE DRIVERS INFORMATION CENTER.
  1. Insert key into the ignition and turn to ON (Just shy of starting vehicle without cranking engine).
  2. Press the trip odometer reset button until RELEARN REMOTE KEY is displayed.
  3. Press and hold the trip odometer reset button for approximately 3 seconds until REMOTE KEY LEARNING ACTIVE displays.
  4. Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time on first remote for approximately 15 seconds. An acoustic signal will be heard indicating successful programming.
  5. Repeat step 4. to program additional remotes. You can have up to 8 programmed remotes for this vehicle. You must program ALL remotes including existing remotes.
  6. To exit programming mode turn ignition OFF, remove key and test all remotes.
If your key fob worked previously and it just stopped working here are a few key fob fixes to try:

Change the battery
Batteries don't last forever, you'll be surprised how often it's just a dead battery! Search our YouTube channel on how to change a key fob battery for your specific year, make, and model!

Wipe the board
The board inside your remote can get a lot more filthy than you think! When the board is dirty it can prohibit the contact to the circuit board when you push down on the button. Simply wiping the circuit board off can make your key fob like new again!

The old car battery reset trick
I know this sounds absurd, but it works sometimes and is worth trying. If you exhausted all of the options above, disconnect both terminals on your car battery for 10 minutes. Then reconnect them and try your key fob. This has worked for many people and I have no idea why.

t might be time for a new key fob! No need to dread over the expensive costs of a new key fob, at Keyless Entry Remote Fob Inc., you can get a refurbished one for a very affordable price! You won't even be able to tell the difference. Just search your vehicle make, model, and year to purchase a key fob or give us a call at 402-671-5100.

I have a viper 7701 remote that just stopped working. Battery is new. Do I have to re program something

If it is the OE (original equipment) key fob, meaning if it is the alarm remote control that came with the original purchase of the car it should not need reprogramming. If it is an aftermarket alarm then it may need reprogramming, more information is required to answer the question.
This is a common issue and the most common problem is that the solder joints holding the battery in the proper location. If any of these are broken the remote will not function. It can be fixed with a little solder or if your uncomfortable with doing it yourself, take it to a computer repair store (they can fix it ONLY if you have a broken solder point).
Take the key fob to the closest auto parts store (aka. autozone, o'reilly's, advance) and near the counters they have a key fob testing equipment (FREE). If the remote is working a light will blink when you push the key fob button while close to the testing equipment. If the testing light shows that the fob is working but does NOT unlock your doors, it needs reprogrammed. If the testing light doesn't blink at all, repair or replacement of the key fob is indicated.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Replaced chip on key on 91 DTS and car lost all power while driving. It shut down and nothing works.

There are 4 methods for programming key fobs. Up to 4 key fobs may be programmed to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR). Each programmed key fob is given a position of #1-#4 in the RCDLR memory.
Method 1 - Key Fob Quick Learn This procedure will add key fobs. Fobs will be numbered in sequence based on when they are programmed; if 2 fobs are currently programmed to the RCDLR, a fob programmed using this method will be numbered as Fob 3. This procedure requires that you have a known good key fob, a replacement key fob, and the vehicles mechanical key.

Important: This procedure is not available when the maximum number of fobs (4) have been programmed. If 4 key fobs are programmed to this RCDLR and this method is attempted, the driver information center (DIC) will display MAX FOBS LEARNED and the programming procedure will exit. Method 4 must be used in this instance.

The vehicle must be OFF.
Place a known key fob within the interior of the vehicle.
Insert the vehicle key in the driver door lock cylinder located in the driver door handle and cycle the key 5 times within 5 seconds.
The DIC will display a message: READY FOR FOB X (X = fob 2, 3, or 4).
Place the replacement key fob in the console fob pocket with the buttons facing forward.
A beep will occur and the DIC will display: READY FOR FOB X (X = fob 3 or 4) or MAX FOBS LEARNED.
If programming additional key fobs, repeat steps 5 and 6, or press the OFF/ACC portion of the ignition switch to exit programming mode.
Operate the active portion of each key fob in order to finalize the programming sequence and verify correct system operation.

Method 2 - Key Fob Slot Programming

This procedure will add or replace a key fob. Method 2 allows you to choose which location (slot) the unprogrammed fob will be learned to. If you are replacing a key fob, this method will erase the previously known key fob programmed to that particular slot. This procedure requires that you have a known good key fob, a replacement key fob, the vehicle mechanical key, and a scan tool.

Important: This procedure is not available when the maximum number of fobs (4) have been programmed. If 4 key fobs are programmed to this RCDLR and this method is attempted, the DIC will display MAX FOBS LEARNED and the programming procedure will exit. Method 4 must be used in this instance.

The vehicle must be OFF.
Place a known key fob within the interior of the vehicle.
Install a scan tool.
Use the scan tool, to access the following:
• Vehicle Control Systems

• Computer/Integrating Systems

• Module Replacement/Setup

• RCDLR

• Program Key Fobs

Insert the vehicle key in the driver door lock cylinder located in the driver door handle and cycle the key 5 times within 5 seconds.
Select Fob X (X = 1, 2, 3, or 4) on the scan tool. This will be the slot you wish to program to.
Place the replacement key fob in the console pocket with the buttons facing forward. A beep will occur indicating programming completion. The previously known fob is now erased.
If programming additional key fobs, repeat steps 4-8, or press the OFF/ACC portion of the ignition switch to exit programming.
Remove the scan tool.
Operate the active portion of each key fob in order to finalize the programming sequence and verify correct system operation.

Method 3 - Key Fob Auto Learn

This procedure will first erase all known key fobs. The procedure will then program a single or multiple key fobs. Method 3 is a series of three 10-minute key cycles, for a total of 30 minutes. This procedure requires that you have a replacement key fob and the vehicle mechanical key.

Important: All previously programmed key fobs will be erased upon completion of the 30-minute programming procedure. The order in which the key fobs are programmed will determine its numbering position within the RCDLR memory. The first key fob programmed will be key fob #1, and the second key fob programmed will be key fob #2. The number stamped on the key fob case is for reference only: #2 can be programmed as #1.
Do not place any known good key fobs in the vicinity of the vehicle when programming with Method 3. If the RCDLR recognizes a known good key fob during Method 3 programming, the programming mode will resort to Method 1.

The vehicle must be OFF.
Place the replacement key fob in the console pocket with the buttons facing forward.
Insert the vehicle key in the driver door lock cylinder located in the driver door handle and cycle the key 5 times within 5 seconds.
The DIC will display a message: OFF/ACC TO LEARN.
Press the OFF/ACC portion of the ignition button.
The DIC will display a message: WAIT 10 MINUTES, then it will count down from 10 to 0, one minute at a time.
When the counter reaches 0, DIC will display OFF/ACC TO LEARN.
Repeat steps 5-7 two more times, for a total of 30 minutes.
The DIC will display a message: OFF/ACC TO LEARN.
Press the OFF/ACC portion of the ignition button.
A beep will occur and the DIC will display: READY FOR FOB 1. At this time all previously known key fobs have been erased. When fob 1 is programmed a beep will be heard and the DIC will display a message: READY FOR FOB 2.
Additional key fobs can be programmed by taking fob 1 out of the pocket and inserting fob 2. If desired, up to 4 fobs can be programmed. Once 4 fobs have been learned, the DIC will display a message: MAX FOBS LEARNED, and automatically exit the program mode.
If learning less than 4 key fobs, press the OFF/ACC portion of the ignition button to exit the program mode.
Operate the active portion of each key fob in order to finalize the programming sequence and verify correct system operation.

Method 4 - Service Programming System Fob Programming

This procedure is a 10-minute relearn procedure using the Techline Terminal with SPS software. Once the 10-minute timer has expired, the fobs can be programmed similar to Method 2 using slot programming. A scan tool, Techline Terminal, and a replacement key fob are required to perform this procedure.

Place the vehicle in the Vehicle On, Engine Off mode.
Connect a scan tool to the vehicle.
Insure that all power consuming devices are turned OFF on the vehicle.
With a scan tool, select Request Info under Service Programming System and follow the scan tool on-screen instructions.
Disconnect the scan tool from the vehicle and connect the scan tool to a Techline Terminal with the current Service Programming System (SPS) software.
Turn the vehicle OFF.
On the Techline Terminal, select Service Programming System and follow the Techline Terminal on-screen instructions. Ensure the correct programming procedure is selected based on component being replaced or programmed. See Important above.
Disconnect the scan tool from the Techline Terminal and re-connect the scan tool to the vehicle.
With a scan tool, select Program ECU under Service Programming System.
At this point the scan tool must remain connected for the duration of the 10 minute relearn procedure.
When the 10 minute relearn procedure has completed, use the scan tool to access the following:
• Vehicle Control Systems

• Computer/Integrating Systems

• Module Replacement/Setup

• RCDLR

• Program Key Fobs

Select Fob X (X = 1, 2, 3, or 4) on the scan tool. This will be the slot you wish to program to.
Place the replacement key fob in the console pocket with the buttons facing forward. A beep will occur indicating programming completion. The previously known fob is now erased.
If programming additional key fobs, repeat steps 12-13, or press the OFF/ACC portion of the ignition switch to exit programming.
Remove the scan tool.
Operate the active portion of each key fob in order to finalize the programming sequence and verify correct system operation.

Keyless remote entry problems cherokee sport

I have a few trouble shooting things you can do. These should be taken only if your keyless entry remote was working at some point and then stopped working.

Key fob not opening up car

On a 1997 civic I had, every now and again the remote would stop opening or locking the car. To get it working again, you needed to open the doors using the key and start the engine. Next time you tried the remote, low and beholdit would open and lock the doors again.

Mine had an ifra red key fob, i.e. the type that has to be pointed in to the interior of the car through the windows before pressing the button, rather than a radio type, i.e. so long as you're within a certain distance of the car, it doesnt matter which direct the key fob is pointing.

Hope this is of some help.

I have 1 key fob for a 2003 Dodge Ram. It stopped working, so I replaced the batteries. It still won't work, and I can't get it to reprogram using the instructions in the manual. It seems I have to have 1...

Are you sure the connection to the battery inside the FOB is good? The one I have, it is possible to push the battery too far down and it does not quite connect.
A dealer can also reprogram it or sell you a new one based on your vehicle is number.

Jag S-Type -intermitent fault where the remote fob does not work

This does not sound like a fob fault - but a locking control module fault , either in the hardware or software of the unit. Get it checked at a Jaguar dealers. When unlocking using the key - as soon as the door is opened you should hear a chime sounding inside the car - this is a timer counting down to sounding the alarm. If you put your key in the ignition as soon as you open the door the alarm should not go off and the chime should stop. If it does not this again points to a fault in the locking controller.
hope this helps - good luck.

Ant get my remote control to opreate the central locking

there should be an instruction in the car user manual on how to program your remote in case the keyfob id is lost.
normally even if you didn’t change the remote battery for longer period, the receiver module has the ability to store id wihout losing it.
may be you remote is in off frequency i mean the frequency shifted a bit when you placed new battery plus your hands effect as you hold the fob. im assuming that your fob is not a pll based or saw type, its made of LC circuit.to check if its LC based, you should see a variable capacitor inside the fob. in this case, you need an rf spectrum analyzer to do so which is not very common as this is very expensive equipment. this will tell if the fob is ok meaning it transmit with data while pressing the button and if the frequency shift a bit then trim to as close in the specs and the problem is in the receiver side.
last try before you buy, press the fob as close to receiver say a meter away, setting on the driver side while pressing the button is ok, if no responce, try varying the variable cap at a precise movement of up +/-15deg angle first then extend to full rotation if no responce at all. hope this helps.

2004 isuzu rodeo won't start

ok, first of all batteries are not expensive, they are priceless when you need them. Your remote will work best if you make sure the battery is in full clean contact with the tangs inside the battery spot on the remote. keep the insides clean with an old toothbrush and some rubbing alcohol. ( the fob, not the battery ) .. if its a money issue, you can look for alternate sources for your battery needs, like goodwill in the electronics section, the battery used in most remotes is a common 2016 or a 2032 battery.. they are all over the place in other electronics. Hope this helps. BUY NEW BATTERIES.
