Washer only works20 seconds then stops

My washer only works20 seconds then stops. I got it filled last night on was cycle for small load it started wash for a short period of time then stopped. Then it only worked on rinse cycle but only for 20 seconds. I've tried unplugging the washer then plugging it back in just to get it to go another 20 seconds hen stops again.some times i'll try lifting the lid and closing it back down some times i'l hear a hum and the washer sarts up again for another 20 seconds then stops again other times i'll do the same and hear nothing like its a hit or miss. I even tried starting the was over from wash cycle on large load and got it throuh wash and almost through rinse cycle then it stopped again and never got it going again. I'd like to know if its time to replace the washer or can it be repaired for cheaper? I bought it at a lowes n Ohio in 2006.

SOURCE: Washer continuously fills but drains at the same time during rinse cycle.

you have the drain pipe too low into tthe house drain pipe, raise the washers drain pipe up , you only need four inches down into the hous drain

also the house drain pipe needs to be as high as the lid of the machine before you put the washer drain tube into the house drain

you have a syphoning effect

SOURCE: Kenmore front-load washer stops at rinse cycle

When the washer initially fills for the wash, is it only hot water entering the drum? Try switching the water temperature between hot and cold as it fills. If any of them show little or no water getting through, it sounds too easy but check to make sure water supply taps are on, and that the cold/hot fill hoses aren't reversed. Remove the fill hoses and check any of the screen filters for blockage (in the hoses and in the inlet water valve). When the machine stops and waits to fill but all you hear is a hum, it sounds like there is power going to the valve but water is not able to get through it.
Good luck!

SOURCE: Agitator starts at begining of cycle before washer is full

Please be carful as running the agitator without enough water will overheat and kick out the motor, however it should be ok when it resets itself.
Yes, the machine should stop agitating when you lift the lid so this too is part of the problem.
After looking at the print I can only suggest that the cam contacts in the timer ( contacts 12 and 14) that start the motor are burned and stuck together.

SOURCE: whirlpool commercial washer stopped running mid

If the timer and lid switches are funtional and the machine is filling and shutting off correctly that only leaves the motor. Have the motor tested or replace it. Even though the timer is running it is possible that it is still at fault. If you have access to another timer try switching them to make sure it isn't the timer. This does sound like a faulty motor and I would start with that assumption.

My Kenmore front load washer will not fill--it sounds like it is draining instead. The last load washed did not spin correctly and the clothes were very wet when cycle completed.

Washer Not Filling:

  • Door Not Closed and Locked
    • Front load washers won't fill if the door is not closed and locked. Listen for the door locking when starting a cycle, then pull on the door to make sure the door is closed and locked.
  • Delayed Start Feature
    • Some washers have a delay prior to filling, where the electronic control is checking the dispenser function. This is Normal.
  • Flashing Lights or Error Code on Display
    • When there is a filling issue, the washer may shut off and display one of the following codes: LF, LE, nF, IE, FH, E10 or F20.
    • If the washer is displaying one of the above error codes, then do the hard reset procedure listed below.

If the appliance is not accepting input from the control panel, follow the steps below to reset the control:

  1. Unplug or turn the circuit breaker off for 30 seconds.
  2. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet or turn the breaker back on and wait 30 seconds.
  3. Press the Pause / Cancel / Stop button twice to clear the display.
  4. Start a short cycle, to check operation of the appliance, by selecting a cycle and pressing and holding the start button until the appliance starts.

Won't fill

Try putting the clothes in and filling it with a bucket via the top opening (Cold water will do)

If it starts and washes then it is the fill valve which has gone faulty , if you put in the normal fill level and then exceed by say another bucket full, that indicates it is the pressure switch.

Ps

You might try taking the fill hose off the back of the amchine and clean out the small filter which is just inside the opening

Frigidaire (LTF2940E) Washer starts, stops, starts, stops...

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

The rinse cycle does not work, but everything else does

I don't know if the problem is solved but last night we ran the washer without any clothes in it and everything seemed to work fine. My wife was able to run a load of laundry and it seemed to work. I hope it was just too much clothes the first time it stopped or the washer was just acting up. Either way, I had nothing to do with the fix. Sorry I couldn't be any more help. Thank you for the link to assistance plan, it might come in handy in the future.

Thanks again,

Washer Pauses and Shuts down Repeatedly

Check the cold water line into the unit. Remove the hose from the washer and clean the screen. flush the line while it is disconnected into a bucket or small garbage can. Your washer wont advance without a fill and most fills/rinses are with cold water

Kenmore washer just stopped

This is a typical symptom of a defective or loose lid switch. If you open and close the washer lid, you should hear a clicking noise as the lid switch activates. The lid switch is usually located on the right-hand side under the washer casing rim. It is activated through a small slot, by a plastic piece on the lid called a lid strike. There are two mounting screws adjacent to the slot that hold the lid switch in place. Sometimes the screws come loose, or the lid strike breaks off, causing the switch not to activate. Or..the switch simply fails over periodic use. This results in the symptoms you describe. The washer fills, but fails to spin or drain. This is a simple repair that you can accomplish yourself. For step-by-step instructions, please refer to the following link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If you require assistance in locating replacment parts and/or have further questions, please post back with your complete model number (located aorund the tub rim), along with your comments. That way I can assure the accuracy of any part numbers.

NOTE: Use care not to slam the washer lid. This can also cause premature failure of the lid switch components.

Washer keeps stopping during any cycle

the humming noise could be from two sources and it is worth while doing a few simple checks first the drain pump is jammed with a foreign object. check nothing caught in the impellor second water not available - check taps turned on. also turn water off, undo fill hoses, put in a bucket and turn water back on try on drain or spin programs to check water drainage as well
