Hi,
Try doing flea power & the power cycle.
1. Disconnect all the peripherals like keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner & monitor and power supply from the CPU.
And press & hold the power button for 2 min, it will release the flea power from the mother board.
Restart the system & check.
2. Disconnect everything.wait for 5-10 minutes and then connect every thing.
Restart the system.
If it does not resolve the issue then you can try this :
Check this before you try to edit the registry values.
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/profiles.1.html
Just remove the registry key it happen when this key is corrupted.
HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR
And delete all references to the external hard drive.
And also HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB
and found the keys associated with the USB to IDE value.
After restarting the system, the drive should be detected & configured automatically by the computer.

Also if you still need driver:
This is the best way to download the drivers of all your devices which are connected to the system for free.
You can download the Driver Magician from this link :
http://www.toggle.com/lv/group/view/kl34858/Driver_Magician.htm
Download the reg key from this link :
http://public.box.net/paul123
then doule click & select ok.
Run the program and select update drivers, it will list the list of pdated drivers.
Select the drivers and select download drivers.
If it does not download just select the driver you need and at the bottom you would see a link,
Just copy that link and download from your browser or download manager, I use orbit downloader.
Good Luck.
Live, Love, Laugh.

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. As you describe the situation on the hard drive it seems to be that the hard drive is bad. Usually Plug and Play device will be automatically detected by a computer. Since the cables are working we can say that the drive has a problem. We wont be anble to recover any files unless it will be detected by the computer. The best thing to do with this one if the hard drive is faulty is to RMA the Hard drive if it still has warranty. You can use the link below to check the warranty.
Seagate Warranty Support and Returns Assistance
Seagate also have Data Recovery Service of their product if the hard drive is defective.
Unfortunately the disk is bad and if the file is important better to get intouch with Seagate since they are the expert on their products.
If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya

hello vyseman15,
hard disc drives need to be handled carefully, they can only handle a limited rough usage. especially dropping while it is working is very dangerous, in most cases the head will "scratch" (damage) the discs surface which make the device afterwards useless.
sorry to say there is nearly no chance to make it work again. there are some companies who can rescue some of the data on it, but they are expensive anyway.
regards

click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x if you can see your usb but its not working sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems if this fails to fix the problem if still no luck
right click to reinstall drivers or
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter.
Then restart computer then check.
Also locate the below key and make sure it's value is 3 not 4. HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\usbstor make sure start value is 3 not 4
you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap
hope this helps
