What to do next after upgrading CPU

I've updated my HP 6720s CPU. Previously it had Intel Celeron M CPU 530 @1.73 GHz and now I replaced it by Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5870 (2.0-GHz, 800-MHz FSB, 2-MB L2 cache). The problem that I have now is that when I power up my laptop after Windows logo all I have got is blurry image on display and some random dots. Can't see a thing! To bypass this first I have go to Safe mode, then restart it and then it's ok. If I skip Safe mode part all I've got is described blur on display. Please help, what should I do? Do I need to install something? I already tried to update Bios, reinstaling Windows and it didn't help. The problem is still the same,no matter if I run laptop on battery or via power supply. Please advise. Thank you in advance! Here are specs: Motherboard: HP model: 30D8 KBC Version 83.0C Chipset: Intel GL960 Rev. C0 Southbridge: Intel 82801HBM (ICH8-ME) Rev. B1 Previous processor: Intel (R) Celeron (R) M CPU 530 @1.73 GHz Current processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5870 2.0-GHz

Hey;

Start your computer and right after the hp logo, keep pressing the F8 button until you see a large list of options.

Select

"USE LAST GOOD KNOWN CONFIGURATION"

and press enter. Let windows load and it should work just fine.

Testimonial: "Hello! Thank you for you answer. Unfortunately this didn't help. The problem remains. I've tried everything that I could think of, updating BIOS, re-installing Windows, updating drivers and nothing.."

Sorry, have you considered doing a total system restore? To do so, at startup, keep pressing F11 and system restore should start, just fallow the steps.

Hey! Thanks for helping me to solve this problem. I'll try this as soon as I get home. Tell me, if I do so will I lose all data on laptop? So I could first back up all my files to external HD.

@ privatetearms _ thanks for help, unfortunately this didn't help. Can some one recommend OC programs that are user friendly, I'll try to down-clock CPU just a bit.

SOURCE: Can I upgrade my CPU to an Intel Core 2 duo 1.7

You are basically limited to what was optional on the model. So you can only upgrade to one of the following cpus:

Intel Pentium M 745 (1.8-GHz) with 400-MHz front
side bus (FSB)
Intel Pentium M 735 (1.7-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Pentium M 725 (1.6-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Pentium M 710 TJ85 (1.4-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB;
operates at a lower temperature than other processors
Intel Celeron M 340 (1.5-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB
Intel Celeron M 330 (1.4-GHz) with 400-MHz FSB

And you are limted to 2gb of ram max on this model.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the quick response. I was afraid that might be the answer but I appreciate the confirmation."

CPU upgrade for Compaq SR1220NX Desktop Computer

Hi
The specs for this machine state that it is a motherboard with
"Socket 478 for Intel P4 Williamette and Northwood processors
Supports Intel Pentium 4 processor up to 2.8 GHz
Supports Intel Celeron processor up to 3.06 GHz (Prescott based Celeron with 533MHz FSB)"
In other words, any CPU that is not socket 478 ( a fairly old socket now) will not even fit on the board. You do not mention your current CPU so you need to compare it with the spec above to see if you can improve it. It is an old machine/motherboard, so your money might be better going towards a motherboard or system box upgrade.

Is there a cpu upgrade for an hp pavilion 6835 with a motherboard 115561 cognac 20000731

The fastest Pentium 3 that will work in your board is a Intel Pentium III 1GHz chip. Here is a link to the specs:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-III/Intel-Pentium%20III%201000%20-%20RB80526PY001256%20%28BX80526F1000256%29.html

You could also get a Intel Celeron 1.1 GHz but it only has half the level 2 cache size so it's actually a bit slower than the Pentium III 1GHz chip.
Here's a link to celeron specs:

Can i up grade my single core cpu pen4 550 3,4GHz to a Quad core or dual core either one would help

Depends on the socket type.. Socket 423 and 478 do not support core duo or quad core processor types. However, if you have LGA 775 (aka socket T) your motherboard will support the following:
Intel Pentium 4 (2.60 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Pentium Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

I have an intel celeron 1.79 GHZ on my dimension 2350,what is the better processor for upgrade? and is there something else that i should change inside for the new processor?

you said that you want to upgrade ur 1.79ghz celeron cpu.

to upgrade a cpu just check that the packaging of the new cpu matches with the motherboard.
and also check that the motherboard supports the new cpu that you are installing. check this in the manufactures site.

I have 2.6 celeron processor with intel 865 motherboard i am up grade tell us who is processor best

on mb with intel 865 the bigest CPU is pentium 4 @ 3GHz. socket 478
however your MB might require to update microcode for the new CPU.
one more thing: this chipset Intel 865 is obsolete, and intel does not manufacture this cpu type anymore.

Hi, I have HP dv4000 model, Intel Pentium 1.60 GHz processors, Can I upgrade the processor? And what is the maximum upgrade for the processor? Regards, for more details and features...

According to the service manual, these are the processors your notebook will handle:

Part#
Intel Pentium M 2.13-GHz 396700-001
Intel Pentium M 2.00-GHz 396699-001
Intel Pentium M 1.86-GHz 393327-001
Intel Pentium M 1.73-GHz 383474-001
Intel Pentium M 1.60-GHz 383473-001 and 396698-001

Intel Celeron M 1.50-GHz 383471-001
Intel Celeron M 1.40-GHz 396697-001
Intel Celeron M 1.30-GHz 389036-001

So it looks like the Pentium 2.13GHZ is the top one.

Here is a link to the service manual for reference: This is on page 5-24.

Thanks fro using Fixya. A Fixya rating would be most appreciated.
