I have the same problem on my JVC GR-DX97U.

JVC wants more money to fix than the camera is worth. I purchased a Head cleaner, but no luck. Anyone have a solution?

JVC GR-DF420E: message: Unit in safeguard mode

I think there is a problem in your database. My message clearly states: JVC GR-DF420E !

Further I was offered free assistance and now I'll have to pay?

On the camcorder problem: It seems to be a well known problem and it costs more to solve this than to buy a new one!

Kind regards

01 error code - unit in safeguard mode

I solved the problem! Open the video cassette door. Look closely at the gear mechanism and see if there is any small debris in the gears. If not, using a magnifying glass and a paper clip(must stretch it out and use the tip) gently move each gear(gently). I had my unit ON. Once I moved the gear it became unstuck and ejected Mini DV cassette. I then re-inserted the cassette and it worked. The dreaded SAFEGAURD MODE message was gone and it is as good as new.
