Loud noise when pressing the one cup two cup shotnbutton
I had the same problem. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to fix it on my own and only the customer support services helped me with it.
Is there water in the machine? Check to see if the water tube is blocked or disconnected.
Run a descale through it about 6 or more times. I also did the clean me function too with the single hole filter and the cleaning pad.
Fixed mine!
This is what came out.
My machine started making a buzzing noise after the cleaning and descaling. It was still under warranty and I was planning to have it fixed by the manufacture but after a couple weeks of using it the noise stopped.

Hi I bought a Breville today and had the same problem. I found the following suggestion and tried it. After 5 goes my machine worked - yippee - hope you have success too.

I got through to the tech support at Breville and they helped me fix this problem. What they had me do was:
1)Fill the water tank all the way up
2)Turn the power on and wait until the heating light turns off.
3)without coffee in the head turn the machine to espresso mode and let it pump for a minute.
4)after a minute turn to standby for a couple seconds then turn it to steam mode for a minute.
5) after this minute is up turn it back to standby for a couple of seconds and then back to espresso mode.
6) the technician said to do this seven times, but mine started working after three or so. The tech said the fixes about 80 to 90 percent of machines with this problem.
Good Luck!

have you tried to use the sharp pin and try to dislodge coffee grind from the filter cup? You will need to remove it from the filter holder to gain access.

Only way to know for sure is by taking it completely apart and expose all the internal parts
Popping is not a good sign If it is electrical arcing you are playing with fire
or electrocution
If you are mechanically inclined they are not that hard to take apart as long as they have no security screws on it and you have to remember you might be voiding your warranty
But it is fun taking things apart No?

If you read your manual, it explains how to program the machine to allow the amount of water that you want to have per cup.
