Assuming Windows 7,
click the Windows "Start" button.
Type 'cmd' into the search-box, and press ENTER.
Type 'IPCONFIG /ALL'.
Look for the IP-address of the "gateway" (or the "DHCP-server").
Type that IP-address into your web-browser.

Where do i find the security settings for my westell wireless router

What you do is log into the router and access the admininstration menu. To do this you put an address similar to 192.168.1.1 into the address bar of Internet Explorer. I suggest that you go to Westells site and download their install program, which makes setting much easier.

Here are the generic settings that need attention:

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

How do I secure my wireless connection?

The exact access and setting procedure can be found at Belkins web site.

Disconnect all cables to the router, then, in essence you connect to the router, usually via direct connection and direct your browser to the address specified (somthing like 192.168.1.1) and log into the router. Things that you want to change are ssytem ID, router name, Router access password (RECORD IT!!!!) and set up wireless security. An easy access password would be your home phone or cell phone number. if you make a cryptic password, tape it to the router, as you will forget it when a guest visits and needs access.

Another setting to check is that your router broadcasts it's presence, usually set to yes, but not always, by default.

SAVE settings on EACH PAGE or they do not save, as you go from page to page changing settings.

Says not secure

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.
To access the Internet you need to connect the DSL or cable modem to the WAN (Internet) port on the wireless router.
