Great info. I am a 62 year old woman who uses her Wii Fit for exercise. We had power surges 2 nights ago. My Wii appeared dead. I thought i had done everything i could with the plugs and turning off and on but it was still dead. THEN i googled and found this conversation. It worked!! Thanks for the info.

I had a problem with my Wii update and Nintendo wanted me to mail my console back stating that the update killed my Wii??? I did what Mothertbowen said to do and unplugged for 5 min. and plugged back in and all is working fine! Was going to cost me $90 to ship back and have repaired and take weeks I'm sure!

This should fix your problem. Disconnect all the cords from the system. You need to unplug the ac adapter/power cord from your wwi system and from the electrical socket /or power surge protecter bar. It should not be connected to any thing! Let it sit unconecteded for about 5 minutes. This should reset it. Then replug the adapter/power cord back in to electical outlet and to the wii system. Then press the power button on the wii, it should turn back on. Your problem should be fixed. Then you can replug the rest of the cords back in for the system. If this does not work I suggest that you buy a new ac adapter/power cord, there could be a short in the one you have, before you send in your system to be fixed or spend a lot of money for a new wwi system. You can buy a new ac adapter/power cord on ebay for about 5 to 10 dollors usually with free shipping. I hope that this has helped you fix the problem. Posted by Motherbowen on June 17th, 2009.

Thank you thank you thank you! I tried unplugging all the cords from the Wii first, that didn't work. After unplugging all the cords from the Wii again, AND unplugging the power cord from the wall, waited about 5 minutes and it's now working.

Dude you rock! We were ready to buy a new system and Googled this website. I had tried turning it on and off and unplugging it, but didn't realize the plug had to be completely removed for 5 minutes. My kids will be thrilled tomorrow when they find out their Wii is fixed. We just got it for Christmas and thought it was a goner already. Thanks!!!

Thank you so much for posting this - it worked for us too! I wonder how many people send their WII in for repair when they could have just followed your simple instructions? Thank you! Thank you!

  • OSU_Dave Nov 22, 2010

We had sent our Wii in to get fixed after a friend's kid tried to push a second disk in without ejecting first. After getting it back we played it once and all was fine. When we went to play it a second time it was completely dead. I unplugged, reset, etc. to no avail. Called warranty place and they emailed out UPS label to ship back to fix it. Thought I would try a google search real quick for one last idea. Lucky me, I found this post, tried it and it worked!! Key was unplugging power cord, made all the difference. Thanks so much, will have 4 happy girls in the morning.

  • Dardo2 Dec 11, 2010

Thank you so much, I was so upset I thought the system had blown up. Do we know why this happens? Is there a surge protector in the system or something? Any way thank you again and keep up the good posts.

Our Wii stopped working all of a sudden on Sunday and had been switched off at the wall since then, so I was convinced it was heading for the bin. Anyway just pulled every connection from the back of it and let it totally disconnected while on school run and bingo - plugged power cable back in and now powers up !! Obviously removing the power cable totally is different from merely switching the plug off at the wall cos it worked!! FAB !!

Just happened to me, my friends were joking that I should blow into it like the old nintendos. It just happened to have been unplugged for awhile so after blowing into it as a joke and plugging it back in--it worked! Needless to say, everyone was thoroughly amused and we all played mario together happily.

  1. as always try new outlet first, then if still not working unplug the cords from the wii also dont leave games in it when you unplug the wii this is not good for your wii usally wont harm it but not a good habit if you do however leave a game in your system be patient if you cant do that call nintendo #1-800-255-3700

If you did not have it plugged into the surge strip you may have killed your wii and if you did have a surge strip check its warranty system they will usually replace the objects plugged into the surge protector up to $1000 usually I'm not saying this is the case with your surge protector but check into it

Wii red light going batty flashing like every 1/3rd of a second, and it will not turn on. I FIXED MINE BY UNPLUGGING EVERYTHNIG CARDS, CABLES, FROM EVERYWHERE, AND REMOVE SDCARDS ALSO, AND DISCS, BOTH GC & WII CARDS, SENSOR BAR PLUG, POWER Plug *ALL THAT'S PLUGGED OR INSERTED... Now i plugged everything back in ACCEPT Not Sensor PLUG To back of wii, then the light quit (This is after 4 min break all undone...) And then plugged the Sensor plug and THEN as i finally plugged in the POWER Plug I first held the SYNC red button on the Wii, and then plugged it in and WAH-LAH Isue Resolved Immediately, KUDOS for the hints Cheerz & Peace Love Banish Fear/ hate to not even give it thought in root thoughtfulness.!. www.fb.com/stanleydeanparker/

Why is lights blinking on wii controller

that means that the wii remote it out of reach (the light that human eyes cannot see is not seen) or you don't have the sensor plugged in,
or the black thing on top is dirty, and you need to clean it for it to work.
(this won't help if your wii is not responding to the wii remote.)

Possible the outlet its plugged into is bad or a blown breaker.Try plugging in something else like a lamp to make sure.
Another problem could be the power supply to the wii is no good.

Send it back to Nintendo. This is a problem with the repair mechanism. When I tried to hack my wii and open it up, I had similar issues. I'm guessing whoever fixed the Wii messed something up internally, disabling you to play online.

it could be the power suppy mine went wrong after about 18 months, try ebay there the cheapest. you can test if its the power supply if you know someone with a wii and use there power supply or know how to use a multi meter and check if you have a voltage coming out of the wii plug end. if you dont first try replacing the fuse in the wall plug. hope this helps.
