SOURCE: Screen goes black after couple seconds on my Polaroid 42" LCD
I had a TLX-4240B 42" Polaroid LCD TV and the screen would go black after about 10 minutes. There was still sound. I removed the two covers exposing the circuit boards behind the TV. I powered up the TV and waited for the screen to go black (I was going to start trying to pinpoint where the issue was with my trusting meter) then noticed a red light would come on when the screen would go black. there were 4 mini switches right above the red light. I switched the one that said burn and the TV has been working great since. good luck and let me know!
SOURCE: Screen goes black, still have audio
I first changed the 220uf capacitor with no luck. I flipped the BURN switch to on and the set has been working great for a week now. Daughter left it on for about 20 hours overnight with no problem. Anybody have an idea what those 4 tiny switches are for? I have heard these type of switches called "dip switches". They are tiny white switches in a yellow block on the lower left side of the upper circuit board. The top one was labled 40", the next one down was labled 46", the 3rd one was 4 letters "EW" something I think, and then the bottom one was labled "BURN".

The common issue with polariod is there power supplies, Your going to have to fork out something for the repair if you not willing to buy a new TV here, A new board in this would be $175 labor another $80 or $90 tops. So you getting into $250 fast. This is why I say to all my askers NEXT TIME buy a extended warranty. This will need a new power board sorry to break it to you and its the common issue I am seeing on fixya.com from my premium chat customers.
