The bushes in the hinge have worn out. Replace the hinges or if you know someone that can machine nylon or steel, you can get someone to machine you some new bushings.

For about a month. Just before Christmas. We have had an appliance technician here and he said it's probably 99% the defrost element. He checked everything else, the plug the gas etc. Those were all in order.

You would have to remove the food from the freezer and remove the back panel to look. Ice can be removed with a hair dryer or a heat gun.

The other possibility is that the recirculation fan in the fridge has stopped spinning.

Or it needs more gas although this is unlikely.
