Screen resolution change = black border around small screen

My boyfriend was messing around with different resolutions on my Dell Inspiron laptop one day. When he was finished, everything was normal looking... When I went to open it up the next day, the screen was in the middle of the monitor surrounded by a 1" thick black border. If I change the resolution to 1600x1200 to make the screen fit, the icons & font are so tiny it's useless. I've tried messing with the other resolutions, changing the DPI, restarting it a million times... I don't know what else I can do at this point. If anyone can help it would be GREATLY appreciated!

Startup screen on my laptop is too small!

Hello,

You may need to lower the resolution to play those old games.

1.Right-click an empty area of the desktop, and then click Properties.
2. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
3.Drag the Screen resolution slider to the left to decrease the resolution of your monitor
4.Click Apply to have the new resolution take effect.
5.Click OK.

Run your game, keep change until it is good

Inspiron 1300 screen border 1 inch

Have you tried adjusting the screen resolution? If you are running windows, try right-clicking on the desktop, then going to properties>settings>screen resolution. Set it to maximum available (I think it's 1024x768 on your inspiron). This should sort it out.

Good luck,
Raf

Screen resolution change = black border around small screen

Once you change the resolution to a smaller size and you see the black border, go into the monitor's menu and there should be settings for the Horizontal and Vertical size/position. Adjust those until it looks correct.

I hope this helps :)

Don't have a full screen on my dell b120 laptop

First check the resolution:
Right click desktop
Go to properties
Go to last tab (up top) and slide bar all the way to the right.

If that doesnt work, reinstall the graphics drivers.

C840 resolution difficulties...

The type of screen you have is a UXGA screen. the optimal resolution for that is 1600 x 1200. changing the resolution for that will distort the screen causing black borders. If a computer has a 15.0+" SXGA+ screen with an optimized resolution of 1400x1050 and the screen's current resolution is set to 1280x1024 pixels, the display will shrink resulting in a black border surrounding the edges of the screen. Also, all other lower resolutions may be stretched to fit the screen. No border will be visible, but fonts may appear slightly fuzzy.
