Dont resolve to chemicals or cutting until trying a compressor with a air nozzle with a little water. Use safety glasses for protection from blasting dirt in the grips. Or just use water in a squirt bottle like the rest of us.
To get the old grips off, use gasoline, lighter fluid or kerosene. This will get under the old grip and it will come off easy. Another way is to take a knife and cut the grip then use a screwdriver to open up the cut and pry off the old grip. To put the new grip on, spray a little WD-40 on the handlebars and the new grip will go right on.

Identify the brand and model and hit the search engines, eBay, call a Bike Shop. It will need to be installed. NO ONE sells just one side. Consider an upgrade since you may be purchasing both sides.
Even the Huffy site doesn't refer to the bike by model number. What's it called?
