Porter Cable 2 inch brad nailer piston does not return

My Porter Cable 18 gauge 3/4-2 inch brad nailer, model BN200, gradually stopped working because the piston no longer returns all the way to the top, thus blocking the next nail from entering the firing chamber. Lubricating and replacing all o-rings did not help. No obvious signs of wear, dirt, or damage. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi,
Sounds like the cylinder check seal. That`s the o`ring on the outside of the cylinder sleeve. With little holes in the groove. You have to remove cylinder sleeve to get to it.
Thanks,
Jeff

I have a Porter Cable NS100 and a BN200 and both are leaking air from what appears to be the exhaust at the very top when I plug into air hose.....will not hold pressure.

have you oiled this tool .and if so are you sure this tool uses oil.because some nailers do not use oil and if you oil it they will most likely stop working .if this is the case you will need to take it apart and clean it with a mild cleaner .we use a water base cleaner to keep it from damaging the orings. if this doesnot fix it you will probbly need to put a Oring kit in it.you shoul be able to get this a ereplacement.com .i hope this helps you out.

If your brad nailer is a BN200; I don't believe it will accommodate staples.

Hello My PC 18ga brad nailer its piston wont retr...

Check the regulator gauge on your air compressor to make sure you have enough air pressure going to your nailer. After replacing my nailer because the driver wouldn't retract, I discovered, when the replacement nailer had the same problem, that I had somehow turned the regulator and decreased the pressure. Now I have two fully operational nailers.

The driver doesn't return after firing. it is a porter cable brad nailer BN200

This is pretty common with brad nailers

Remove the brads from your gun - disconnect from the air supply
On the front of your gun is a latch - open it
Check the sliding surface for build up of dirt or small pieces of metal from the brads.
Once clean polish the surface with a fine steel wool or a small brass brush
Reassemble with a drop of machine oil on the sliding surface
Oil your gun as you normally would
Using a piece of soft wood dry fire the gun 10 or so times to ensure that the dents it is making in the wood are all pretty even
Reload and nail something

Driver will not return to rest position,

The plunger or anvil has damage, or your return spring in the chamber is broken. This could also be caused by mechanical issue in the anvil track.

Porter Cable 18 ga Brad nailer - BN200 Will not reload

Strip and clean the whole diaphragm and spring arrangement. Also check whether a bad nail hasn't damaged the piston guide and caused it to jam when on return stroke.

Will not pull piston back after shooting a nail

first thing i would do is to make sure this gun needs oil .most of your newer guns don't take oil.and if this is true with your gun you will need to rinse all of it out, hear is a place you can get a schematic. http://www.toolpartsdirect.com/cgi-bin/schematic.cgi/portercable/BN200
