Adjust each thermostat (one under the lower front cover, one under the upper front cover) at the same indication (thermostats may not have degree marks but warm, hot, very hot or A, B, C). Turning the screw clockwise is hotter. For safety sake, turn off the circuit breaker for the water heater at the house electric panel before removing thermostat covers.

How Do I restart the rheem 81v30d

Rheem does not post service manuals.
One reason is that water heaters have changed rapidly last few years, and same model might have different features because Rheem experiments to see which products work after they are sold.

Calls to Rheem for DIY help are largely useless since they want you to call local installer or technician... who will sell you a new heater for more money.
Rheem wants to end DIY repairs since doing it yourself saves you money... which means Rheem, and Rheem-loyal service companies make less money.

I cant get the water temp below 125 and I need to for our day care. I have the lower thermostat set to 110 and it still is 125 to 130 degrees. Is there something else I need to do. There is a upper...

You have marathon water heater?
Thermostat is probably bad. Has gone out of calibration.
Replace both upper and lower thermostats for $25 from local hardware store, takes about 20 minutes, turn off power, take photo of wires before starting. These thermostats can be adjusted all the way down to 90 degrees, and then dial up a bit to reach 110.
Copy following link for instructions how to replace thermostat yourself.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html

If problem continues, then replace both elements.
Elements are special order made specifically for marathon.
Requires 1-7/8" socket to remove elements.
Upper 3800 watt, order part SP610130
Lower 3800 watt, order part SP210197

Hotwater heater new won't heat??

Is water inside tank Hot?
Open TP valve and also open drain valve.
If tank is hot, then you might have plumbing problem caused by bad faucet cartridge or check valve.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Crossover.html

Red reset button is located on upper thermostat.
Test for 120Volt across top two screws on upper thermostat.
You might have a bad upper thermostat.
If electric water heater has some hot water, then upper element is good.
Electrician should enjoy following page full of information.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-problems-with-water-heater.html

Are the hot and cold pipes reversed on top of tank?
Usually the cold water line has shut-off valve.
Top of tank is marked H and C

WATER IS LEAKING OUT MY PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE. IT SEEMS LIKE THE WATER IS GETTING TOO HOT AND IT IS CAUSING THE RELIEF VALVE TO OPEN UP. WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS? WOULD IT BE A BAD RELIEF VALVE, A BAD...

If you have overheating, the elements are working fine and are not suspect.
Also electric power and circuit breaker are eliminated.
ECO reset is not tripped, so that points to faulty TP vlave, but water temperature has to reach 180 degrees F for ECO to trip.
Open link to see ECO located on upper thermostat.

Remaining suspects are 1) bad thermostat or 2) faulty TP valve or 3) Stacking or 4) combination of the 3.
Raise TP lever and gently let back down and see if something was lodged in the valve.

1) If you are certain that water feels hotter than normal, then replace both thermostats:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-water-heater.html

2) If water seems normal temperature, then replace TP valve:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-TP-valve.html

3) If TP releases water after frequent water use, then Stacking could be part of problem:

Main remote control is not working can you bypass the remote temporarily

No. However you may be able reset the thermostat to its factory setting.
Turn the thermostat off.
Shut of the gas and water supply to the unit.
Unplug or disconnect the unit from its electrical power source. Disconnect the thermostat from the heater.
Wait approximately 5 to minutes, and then reattach the thermostat wires to the heater.
Turn the water supply on and open the tub faucet to its hottest setting for about a minute.
Turn the faucet off and make sure no water water is flowing anywhere in the house.
Turn the gas supply back on.
Reconnect the thermostat wires to the heater.
Connect or turn the power supply back on.
Wait at least 2 minutes before turning the thermostat power button back on.
After the thermostat power button has be pressed, wait an additional 2 minutes before running water.
Test the heater at this time. Turn the water on at the farthest faucet to its hottest setting. measure the temperature with a cooking thermometer.
If you need to make adjustments to the water temperature, either up down, shut all the faucets off first.
The thermostat should read 100 degrees Fahrenheit when it first starts.
If you are receiving an error massage, consult with the manufacturer.
If the thermostat is reading the correct water temperature but the unit is not operating, there are other issue need to deal with. Let us know if this works or you need further assistance.

electric heaters dont need to be light because they dont use gas, the power is off to the heater or the thermastat is bad or the heating element is bad. call the manufacture and get free customer service and support over the phone.
