Question about Onkyo TX-SR605 Receiver
None of the codes listed in the Verizon FIOS remote Control work for turning the TX-SR605 on. Two codes work for turning it off but will not work for turning it on. The Verizon remopte is a Motorola DRC800
I have a solution which has worked well for me. It uses the DVD button at the top of the remote. It was a trade-off as none of the codes in the RC144 Philips remote will work any Blu-ray players, so the DVD button was unassigned. The 922, 955 and 977 codes are explained in the directions for the FIOS remote. http://onlinehelp.verizon.net/consumer/bin/pdf/philips%20rc1445302%20user%20guide.pdf
1. Set up your TV button to work your TV.
2. Set up your Onkyo code, pick one to turn on the receiver. I used 3719
3. Use the 9-2-2 code to cycle through all available codes. At about a count of 300 I found one which will turn the Onkyo receiver off. Make sure you start this process with the ONKYO receiver already on. Once you find it press the OK button.
4. Use the 9-7-7 code to power all devices TV, AUX and DVD from the power button.
In this way, each time the power button is pressed it will send both the power on and power off signal to the ONKYO receiver.
This technique works well when you point the remote at the ONKYO receiver and press power button. Apparently the TV has better reception for the signal then the ONKYO does.

I have a Panasonic TH-50PX60U TV, FIOS, and Onkyo TR605. My FIOS remote was already configured to shut off my TV and this shut of the 605 (as described by fiber_yahoo). A couple of the FIOS remote codes for Onkyo devices would shut off the 605 but they would not turn it on. I finally found a code to turn it on using the "922" search feature within 20 or so steps. This also happens to adjust the 605 volume. I assigned this to the AUX device, then assigned STB power to include the TV and AUX buttons using the "977" procedure in the remote programming guide. Now if I could just figure out how to make the FIOS remote switch AV inputs to the receiver.....

I found a solution that works well for me. All along I was able to get the TV to turn on and off with the STB (the set top box provided by Verizon) by programming the Verizon remote. But as you all have had the same trouble, I couldn’t get the Onkyo Receiver to cooperate as well. I got around that by programming the TV (Samsung LCD w/HDMI cable interface) to send a command over the HDMI via CEC (Samsung’s Anynet) to turn the Onkyo on and off. I also had to enable CEC on the Onkyo (CEC is called RIHD on the Onkyo) as well. This way anytime the TV is turned on or off by any means, the receiver follows in sync, on and off. Now I only use the Verizon remote and everyone in the house can turn the system on and off! For more information on CEC, see here:
I didn’t know if this would work between Samsung and Onkyo, but apparently the CEC standards are followed and it does work like magic! You will have to read both the Samsung (or your TV) and Onkyo manual for CEC instructions. Unfortunately the Onkyo manual is not too clear, however it is not difficult to turn on this feature. Good luck! If you have HDMI chances are you have CEC. Post back if you have trouble, and I’ll try to help.

Different codes exist. There is no toggle on/off code that does both. Choose which code matters to you more, and unfortunately the other task must be done with the receiver remote or manually (by hand).

The easiest way to fix the Fios remote problem with Onkyo receivers is to use the AUX + OK, press the 922 and then the Start button for the DVR control, press the >> button until the receiver turns off, but keep pushing the >> button until the receiver turns on, then press the OK. You are scrolling thru a list of codes and you can proceed to the next working code if you keep pressing the >> button until the receiver comes back on. At that point you can press OK. The receiver volume control should work too.

I had numerous problems with a complicated video/audio system and 6- different remotes. All was easily solved when I bought a Logitec/Harmony One remote. It's expensive but does work and will eliminate the need for multiple remote. And their customer service/tech support are simply terrific.
