Do you know what the part number for the element is? Is this something I can replace or should I have a repairman handle?
SOURCE: The Bottom oven element has burned out. Is is
It's replaceable,if it's an exposed element meaning you can look in the oven and see the element you can do it yourself unplug the range take out the two screws securing it pull it slowly toward you, unplug the two connectors and put in the new one,if it's a hidden bake meaning you can't see the element you would be better off having it done.
SOURCE: I have a TAPPAN oven, the bottom element does not
If your bottom(bake) and top(broil) elements both do not work, you could be running on 110 volts. An electric range runs on 220volts. and if only one leg of the household circuit kicks off, the range top still works. The first thing to do is reset you circuit breaker and try it before replacing range parts.
SOURCE: my baking element burned into. can my oven work
I don't know if the broil element will work with the thermostat -- it's usually run full on. You could experiment and see, but the oven will not work correctly with just that element. You're used to baking with heat from the bottom and there is a difference. You might get away with it for pizza and meats -- MAYBE. But, even if it does work with the thermostat, do not try to bake with it unless you plan ahead to throw whatever you're baking away. Cakes, pies, etc. will be ruined with hea from the top. Replace the element -- they're not too expensive and they're easy to change. Just turn the power off first!
SOURCE: The right front element will not heat properly on
Without a proper model number I would say you need to replace the element or the infinite switch for the element. Best off to call a reliable repair company such as Sears.
