Yup, these timers have a tiny clock motor that can get lint on them, causing motor failure, should be simple replacement. Refrigerators in cold garages run more to regulate their temperature below 45 degrees.
I have replaced the defrost timer. It seems to have helped but not sure. I still here freezer running more than I expected considering it is still between -10 - 20 deg F here. Guess the defrost cycle itself would cause the freezer to run some after defrost is complete. Not sure how to know if it is normal for unit to run as much as it is. If there is a problem, I think at this point it would have to be related to the refrig. system. Defrost tstat & element & door seals are good; freezer tstat & defrost timer have been replaced. Unit is 10 years old. Would cost more than worth to have refrigerant checked. Btw, defrost coils had no frost on them when I started troubleshooting problem - it's not a problem of unit NOT defrosting. I haven't checked for frost on coils between defrost cycles after changing defrost timer.

hi thanks for the question the drain hose goes to the underneath by the compressor thaw out the freezer and clean the drain hose this will solve the problem thanks the appliance doc
Hello Donna F - Typically freezers are not recommended to be located outside because if the garage temperature is above 100 degrees, it will have difficulties performing optimally due to un-circulating air. Some manufacturers have garage kit design to help with this issue. It is design to solely be used during the winter to provide heat to the coils which trigger the compressor to come on. During the summer months, generally it is not needed.
