The reason is due to the notebook being a very basic model and does not have a built in mic, but you should still be able plug one into the mic slot, i have heard that some mics are not compatible (used to work at the service centre UK) but which ones i do not know.
Open the Control Panel, select Speech Recognition to very the Mic is in working order. Set Up Microphone. Open Sounds to select Mic. If you are trying to setup in a software program, say Skype, open Skype Setting and configure/select Internal Mic and webcam.
If the mic is present, you can access speech recognition software to check if the MIC is working, to do so:
Click Start> Control Panel> Ease Of Access> Speech Recognition Options
Dear sheetaldevbr, Try to connect you video set (cam, speaker,Mic set) to another computer, to find out that probably the problem is in your Laptop PC. Or try to reconfigure your microphone by setting them up on Control panel. Follow these steps: Start>ControlPanel>Sound,Speech and Audio Device and rearrange your Mic Device driver. Or If you run the complete Office (at least 2003) try to run the speech recognition on office and run the training and you can also reconfigure your mic in Micrososft Office software. GoodLuck!
There is one more mic control you are forgetting. In the system tray you have a volume control. When you click it open you would come across another Mic control that slides up and down try using this one. I feel that if you use two of these the handling may become a little easier. Let logitech's control be constant and use this one to handle the speech contents.
Start > Control Panel > Classic view > Speech recognition options - run through set up.
