Yes, the original issue was the control from the beginning. the control is damaged and it cannot register the latch at this point. this is necessary and , it will fix the issue.

You have to take to back off the washer --be careful because the metal on the edges are sharp. The basket is located on the very bottom of the mechanical parts (sorry I can't be more specific) It is a strainer basket and fairly easy to remove and replace. Frigidaires' website has a schematic of the newer models to make the basket easier to find--I will try to attach the url for mine so you can find it.

Disconnect power then open the door and remove the spring-hoop assembly that secures the door gasket. Peel off the part of the door gasket near the door lock and switch assembly. Remove the screws securing the door lock and switch assembly to the front panel then pull the door lock and switch assembly out. Transfer the wires to the new door lock and switch assembly then install into place. Put the door gasket back and secure it with the spring-hoop assembly.
