Have a 2005 Hyundai Sonata and for the last year it has a high pitch squeak almost always when the engine is running. I had it into the shop three or four times and they tried to get the squeak to stop. The accesory belt idler pulley was replaced and also the tensioner pulley bearing has been replaced. A new pull was put on and we were also told to use a wire brush on the belt when the squeaking starts again. This above repairs usually only worked and kept the squeak quiet a week or two. Even when the wire brush is used it now only stops the annoying noise for a day or two. The car is in really good shape and looks nice but I have to have the music playing very loud and can't have the windows or sunroof open because of the awful noise. I also don't like to go the drive up windows because of the squeak. Any suggestions would be quite appreciated. Dena

Occasionally this will happen. Here are a few tricks to hush the noisy belt. Try using another belt from another manufacturer. Its true you do get what you pay for. A better belt may be the ticket. Another trick is to lightly score the idler pulley with a file all the way around in a cross pattern then lightly sand the pulley to rough up the surface. There is also a spray you can buy called belt dressing that will work. Hope this gives you a reprieve from your earplugs. Good luck Dena.

There are three different engines on the Sonata, but they are always on the flat part of the block, back and front.

Hello there , I'm not sure about Sonatas , if you have changed your battery or disconnected it , some vehicles like Fords around the 2000 year mark need to be calibrated , this may be achieved by turning your ignition on putting your tran in drive with your foot flat on the peddle and hold for 3 minutes and then turn ignition off and then back on with the car in park and no peddle , do not start car to do this just ignition on ! Good luck all so it may be cheaper to buy a work shop manual rather than taking your car to a work. Shop , best is - Haynes Work Shop Manual - Regards Graham ...

My 2005 Hyundai Sonata GL started displaying code P2422, P0122 and P0183. I just recently purchased this vehicle. A 60000 mile service was completed late last week. I presume I will have to bring the...

You never checked it for codes before you bought it
or just don't know anything about codes?

They have been on all vehicles for 32 years

Those codes all all over the place

No use to me unless I had diagnostic manuals for your car

The shop will figure all that out

Most likely someone bought it & drove it,that's all

Codes are related to faults or problems, nothing to do with

My 2005 Hyundai Sonata (V6-2.7L engine) has 52,000 miles on it. I took it to the shop and had it inspected. The tech said that I should replace the timing belt soon. This sounds suspicious as I thought...

Not on this year and make, Hyundai Sonata with a 2.7L engine, Hyundai recommends replacing timing belt every 60,000 miles or 48 months, whichever occurs first, this is an interference engine, which piston to valve damage will occur due to timing belt failure.

When does this happen? When you're turning? When the car is cold? Under acceleration? I need more info before I can make any suggestions.
