My GE Advantium microwave is beeping about 5 times every 2 minutes or so. The display says, "Keypanel Shorted. May need service. Press CLEAR to continue." Ironically, I need a working keypanel to press clear. How do I get it to stop beeping?

SOURCE: the display on my GE Advantium microwave oven

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

If yours is an Advantium, one of these owner's manuals will help you set the clock if you need help:

I have a GE Advantium Microwave Model # SCA1000HWW, where the lights stays on, the fan is on and the turn table is spinning when you shut the door.

Main relay RY1 on your main PCB is shorted.

You can order a new board (part number WB27X10776) for $167.20 from the Pros here. They're our favorite supplier.

Or we can repair your circuit board with our $39.95 service.

The service manual will help you with disassembly. It's here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly if you need further help.

My microwave/convection oven (a GE unit model JES1290SK) started beeping every few seconds and displaying F6 on the control panel. I unplugged it and waited several minutes and when plugged in it displays...

The technical sheets in my files do not list F6 on the error code chart for GE microwaves.

Generally, these are the error codes possible on GE microwaves:

F1 open thermal sensor (convection models)
F2 shorted thermal sensor (convection models)
F3 key panel shorted for more than 60 seconds
F4 open humidity sensor
F5 shorted humidity sensor

There should be a "mini-manual" (technical sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

Control locked

Howdy:) Try this:

Microwave - Explanation of the Child Lock Out Feature
Many microwave control panels can be locked to prevent accidental use or access by children.
There are two different ways to lock the control panel:
1. Press and hold the CLEAR/OFF pad for 3 seconds. The display will show "LOCK" and then revert to the time of day.
A small "L" will appear in the corner of the display as a reminder that the control panel is locked. If anyone tries to use the microwave, the display will show "LOCK".
2. On some models, press and hold the 5 and 7 pads simultaneously for 3 seconds.
To unlock the control: Repeat the procedure which was used to lock the control. (Press and hold the CLEAR/OFF pad for about 3 seconds or hold the 5 and 7 pad simultaneously for 3 seconds.)

Display on my ge Advantium 120 convection/microwave has gone blank. Just a blinking -

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes and try it again.

If it's still not working, it may have a failed keypad or a problem with the controller.

The full service / installation manual is here.

We repair these all the time, and would be happy to help you with more info at no charge. Feel free to contact us.

Microwave

F3 occurs if the controller detects a key shorted for more than 60 seconds. Luckily, on this model, the "keypanel" as it's called is available as a separate part. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering the model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 The "keypanel" is shown as reference number 44 on that exploded view.

GE Microwave DEMO MODE

I just bought a condo with a GE Spacemaker Mod# JVM1860SD
that was stuck in demo mode. (This mod# has been replaced by the JVM1870*** series)

I called GE twice in two days, and finally got someone who had the solution (and it worked):

  1. Unplug the unit for at least 30 seconds
  2. Plug the unit back in DO NOT SET THE CLOCK
  3. While the unit is still "booting up" and the display screen is lit with gibberish, HOLD THE POWER LEVEL AND THE ZERO BUTTON for at least 5 seconds.
  4. After 5 seconds, the screen will display "demo mode off"
It messed me up at first because the power level and zero pads don't beep when the unit is booting up... but it worked.
- Again, this is for the GE Spacemaker 1860-1870 series models only - The women who gave me instructions said she had different demo mode unlock methods for the 1400, 3670, 2070 etc... so call GE if you have a different model.
P.S. my model looks like this - the keypad setup is key http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SPECPAGE&SKU=JVM1870SK&SITEID=GEA
