Advanced mystery -- Dell 2130cn TCP/IP printer installed on 5 computers, on two of which the job stays locked in the queue, no trouble indicated. Prints normally on two XP and one of the Windows 8 computers, fails on XP x86 and Windows 8 x64. On failing XP computer, test prints through USB (USB not tested on Win8). All machines can access the printer's web page through browser and the IP address matches the port definition. Local network only IPv4: 192.168.1.46 through operator panel. There is one commonality, printer was initially installed on port originally specified as HP Jet Direct on both failing machines. Printer was deleted, port was deleted. Printer reinstalled from wotking driver source. No Joy... Ideas?
What version of driver are you using? I've found that sometimes an older driver will work for the new computers. I'm noticing that Dell has their Open Manage Print Software that covers all the drivers that you would need. The thing is, there are also multiple versions (A08, A09) of that as well. I would try them
Testimonial: "Thanks for responding. I'm embarrased to admit that I don't know where to find the driver version number since these are network printers that I don't see in device manager. I can say that I did an unsuccessful reinstallation on a failing XP system by carefully using the same source that had worked on Windows 8 x86."
More information: Driver soource: 2130cn_SSW_20130221.exe
You will need to go out to the Dell website and go through the drivers and downloads, select your printer and choose drivers. Her is the link, I hope it works for you.http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?c=us...
additional information: When I click get information from printer the response is "Unable to detect printer automatically from the connected port." This from printer>properties>ports:" Port : IP_192.168.1.46 Description : Standard TCP/IP Port Printer : Dell 2130cn 046 " his from printer's web page "Dell 2130cn Color Laser IPv4: 192.168.1.46"
I used Nirsoft sysexporter to cut an paste the quotes above. There are no inadvertently-corrected typos.
Your best bet is to always use the correct Dell Drivers if at all possible, from the Dell website.
You can be certain that the driver in use came from the Dell website. The only uncertainty is the version. That's why I isolated the download that worked most recently to reinstall on the failing XP system --but with no joy. Somehow the systems seem haunted by the spectre of having seen the printer having once been installed on an HP jetdirect port. That is the single common factor. Now both failing systems access the webpage but neither can see the printer through Windows printing software -- as above.
more wierdness. The XP machine has healed itself, Windows 8 still no joy. I wish I could show you a printscreen I have showing Windows 8 properties page failing to read printer settings through standard port while Peinters webpage is displayed in the backgroud, both using 192.168.1.46

SOURCE: very strange problem with Dell 5100cn
Hi Dejoda89,
Unfortunately, the problem is not with the printer, but rather the computer that you are trying to access it with.
It could be a corrupt Print Driver, corrupt registry file, your firewall, or even the security settings on the print server.
The network card of the printer doesnt care where the source of the request is coming from. If you can address the printer via tcp/ip, then the port is active and working.
Check with the system administrator of the print server to see if they can help resolve the issue.
