Where would i look to find out what kind of phone i have

In wireless network technology of mobile there are almost all phones use either GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) or CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technology.GSM is an open, digital cellular technology used for transmitting mobile voice and data services. The GSM standard is the most widely accepted standard and is implemented globally. The GSM provides basic to advanced voice and data
services including Roaming .GSM data is stored in SIM card and the CDMA data is stored in Phone's internal memory. You are free to buy any GSM handset from market. The CDMA Handset is changed through service provider only.In GSM mobile you can use any GSM sim card ,in some situation it will be locked with any particular network ,you can unlock your mobile by any online vendor like http://www.theunlockarena.com/supported-phones/rs13wp7/ or the network provider .In CDMA you can't change your sim card (it won't accept any other sim card) .To know your mobile is GSM or CDMA or any other specification you can check it with

My nokia c7 phone shows sim card registration failed whenever i insert a CDMA sim. The manual says it supports WCDMA. Please help

The SIM registration failed because Nokia C7 is not a CDMA phone. It is GSM phone.
Also, WCDMA is different from CDMA. In simple terms, WCDMA is a 3G technology for GSM connections just like EVDO in a 3G technology for CDMA phones.
So you have to buy a GSM connection.

Hi, my nokia 5800 handset is not supporting CDMA technology....can i change it to GSm to CDMA or both i can use in my nokia 5800...its very urgent....

The GSM technology is embedded in the main board of your phone. If you need CDMA, you need to look at Nokia CDMA models. You cannot convert communications technologies via the phone's Menu.

My Reliance Classic model is cdma, how can i change it to gsm. plz provide free software for conversion

Actually you cannot change it, sorry. The difference is in the hardware technology. GSM and CDMA are two different standards and not something you can change by flashing the firmware. For more information, consult Wikipedia.

If you would like to convert to GSM, ask your service provider if they have a similar GSM phone.

In simple layman terms what is GSM/and CDMA phones? What do the abbreviations stand for? reply to my mail addres please.

Originally, the acronym GSM stood for Groupe Spécial Mobile, a group formed by the Conference of European Posts and Telegraphs (CEPT) in 1982 to research the merits of a European standard for mobile telecommunications. Commercial service using the GSM system did not actually start until 1991. Instead of using analog service, GSM was developed as a digital system using TDMA technology.

Definition: The most common and most recent digital cellular technology in North America. What differentiate CDMA from other phone technologies is that in order to carry many conversations over one frequency, it sends all communications in groups of bits mixed altogether, but tags each group, belonging to a specific communication, with a different code (CDMA stands for &Code Division Multiple Access&). Therefore, at the other end, each communication can be rebuilt in the correct order, based on the unique codes attached to certain groups of bits.
Alternate Spellings: CDMA stands for &Code Division Multiple Access&
Common Misspellings: Don't misplace it with TDMA, which is another digital cellular technology.
