It helps to state what iOS you are running for these kinds of problems. Depending on what app you are trying to use, you sometimes have to literally tell the iPad to choose your earpiece for sound for that particular app. Also be sure your bluetooth volume is up. This is independent of your main volume and can be adjusted only when connected. Simply use the volume adjustment on the side of the iPad. Some earpieces have their own volume control as well. Be sure to tap that up a few times as well.

Cannot get bluetooth keyboard to connect

Make sure the keyboard does not have a pairing relationship with another device in the room.

If there are any devices listed on the iPad, in Bluetooth settings, tap 'I' and forget Device.

Place the keyboard in pairing mode with a 5 second depress on power from the 'off' or no power state.

Type the keys on the keyboard that the iPad wants for the pair.

Trying to pair my apple bluetooth keyboard with viewsonic 7 tablet using easy connect

Sorry to hear/read this really.
One thing you've got to know and as a matter of fact acquaint yourself with is this-

Original Apple OS devices, gadgets and equipments DO NOT readily pair or connect with Android OS based devices, gadgets and equipments.

With time, maybe someone can find a way round to resolve this impasse but at the time, its best you save yourself all the aggravations.

Make use of your maplin keyboard instead.
