The USB keyboard & Mouse operation before windows is loaded is controlled by the BIOS. Go into your bios setup and make sure USB keyboard support is enabled.
The operating system does not have direct access to the keyboard, this is handled by a keyboard controller chip on the motherboard (so that it can be controlled by the BIOS). If the keyboard works before Windows 7 is loaded then there is no hardware fault. If the keyboard does not work at all, even before Windows is loaded then you need to check the connection of the keyboard to the motherboard. If it is a problem only within Windows 7 then try an external USB keyboard. If this works then there may be a driver problem.
There may also be some setting in the BIOS, so use an external keyboard if necessary and get into the BIOS to check all the settings there.
Check online for a BIOS update for your laptop.
If your keyboard is USB, switch to a standard PS/2 keyboard, and enable legacy support for USB in your bios.. This may help you, but your bios may not be able to use a USB keyboard during POST.
intel has always been buggy with their mobo's. if its a usb keyboard enable the upnp usb feature in the bios. then it should load noramlly. what i usually do is this. switch bios Upnp to auto detect, load windozs. same problem, swap keyboards. same problem, replace mobo for waranty.
Did you go into the BIOS and set it to recognize the USB Keyboard after you reset the BIOS? Is windows not noticing it or the BIOS. You stated that it recognized the USB keyboard and then said that it did not. What does all of this mean? USB keyboard does not activate "del" setup.
If it does not work, it is because you reset the BIOS and did not change the settings back for the USB keyboard.
