SOURCE: Threading & Use of Needle Threder

Threading as per image....make sure presser foot is up so top thread will properly engage in tension unit, make sure your thread is inserted in small guide on needle arm too. Your user guide should have a clear graphic of this process which is essentially the same for all machines.
2bc0705.jpg
As for the needle threader, once thru the last guide on the needle arm, raise needle to highest position, lower the needle threader so that the tiny hook engages the eye of the needle and place thread horizontally from L to R along the plastic arm so the tiny hook can grab thread, release threader and a small loop will form in needle, pull it clear and you are away !

If the tiny hook has been bent, a little judicious and gentle bending to re-align may be necessary, use a jewellers screwdriver or similar and please be very gentle

SOURCE: The Reverse stitch button

The feed mechanism needs to be oiled. Take off the bottom cover and look for any place where two parts move against each other. Some binds can be very difficult to remove. Try spraying everything with a light weight oil (I like Tri-Flow) and let them soak over night. Then manually try to move the feed dogs with your hand. Hopefully it will break loose.
Good luck!

SOURCE: needle wont go up and down.

well,it seem that your upper camshaft was stuck due to several factor on mechanical linkages and maybe on gears. You have to isolate the checking since you have clean lower bobbins free from dirt and thread/fabrics chips. If there an opening on top of machine open it to check some mechanical destorsion or breakage.Check some broken gears inside. If nothing try to open also at the bottom of machine cover and there are also belt and gears connected to the motors and bobbins shuttle holder if so oil all shafting oil port, oil port bushing specially on bushing near hand wheel there is port for oil,
check also motor assembly of machine, you can disconnect belt from motor release the bolt holding motor adjust to lower tension belt and release the belt.Take some tools such as monkey pliers or small pipe wrench that can hold hand wheel just crack in order to move suddenly after oiling for several hours sometime bushing and shafting rushes emerged or if you have anti rush spray put in on.After cracking and you can move a little crack only by your hand several time lleft and right until all linkages free from rush.If you can move all parts and hand wheel rotate freely.Check also motor by rotating the small pulley conncted to motor if free to move.if ok put back and reassembly all parts disconnected.try to move again by hand if free to move after all asssembly.Run machine using foot pedal.

How do I do a reverse stitch on Bernina 145?

Do you mean the Bernina Activa 145? If so, you can press and hold the Reverse button. The button is to the right of the needle bar; it's to the left and below the needle stop Up/Down button. The button is indicated with a raised U with an arrow at the top of the right side of the U. Note: this "quick reverse" will only work if the stitch length is <= 3mm. If you want to sew in reverse without holding the Reverse button, quickly press the button twice. Press the Reverse button once more to sew forward.

This is explained in the manual for the Bernina Activa 145. The manual is available on the support page: https://www.bernina.com/en-US/Machines-US/Series-Overview/BERNINA-activa/BERNINA-activa-145 . The current link to the manual is https://www.bernina.com/BERNINA/media/Support/Sewing_Quilting_Embroidery/activa/activa_145/Documents/EN/activa-135-145-EN.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Model #385.1764180 the reverse no longer works. Is there a quick fix?

Mine was doing same thing. Open up from side and see if a little oil will help. Also, keep pushing down the Reverse button and make sure your needle Iis up, push down the V Reverse and see if it works again. A lot of grease inside these macbines have gotten thick. Keep trying to use it, guarantee it will start back. Mine works all the time now.

Brother xl-2600 As I am sewing ( not thick material) the thread keeps breaking, also over seams it is not sewing through. Then, when my bobbin ran out, went to change it and when pulling the needle down...

try changing the top thread tension to 3 or 4

also rethread the machine just in case the thread is hung up somewhere

take the bobbin out & put the bobbin in reverse of what you did before

you said you changed the needle, check to make sure it in correctly,, the flat side goes to the back of the machine, push it all the way up before tightening the screw

Where is the reverse button on elna 2005?

The reverse button is next to where you thread the cotton. as the thread goes down to the needle, there is a small cream tab approx 1.5cm long. This is pushed down when you want to reverse. It will only go down about 1.5cm then release.

The reverse won't work. Push the button and it just keeps going forward. When filling bobbin the needle shaft still goes up and down even when the dial has been unengaged as directed

Ok, you have a couple things going on here. You need to remove the top cover of your machine. Let's address the reverse first, look down into the top of your machine and press the reverse button. There should be some action there. If not your button is dirty and needs to be cleaned. If there is movement check for a small set screw attached to the lever on the knob. This may need adjustment.

On the handwheel, you need to take the smaller wheel off and pull the handwheel as far off the machine as you can without damaging the belt.
Clean the area where the handwheel goes over the shaft with canned air - make sure you clean all the way around.

That should do it.

Needle breaking b/c it hits needle plate

Is the needle pushed all the way up into the shaft? It may have worked loose and slipped down a bit.
