Go to gmail and start creating a new account (Click Create an account). At the "Desired Login name" use the one you want to check and press "check availability". Gmail will tell you if this account is taken or not. (Taken means "still exists" in your case)
try to login with your account name, then click on the link "Can't access your account?" If you specified a "backup email" account (used to resolve problems (like this)), then the password for jyachnik27 can be mailed to the backup email account.
Look in the top right hand corner of your GMail home page when you are signed in.
You should see your email name up there with a down arrow beside it.
Click on the down arrow and select SIGN OUT.
Then next time you sign in to GMail make sure you UNCHECK the STAY SIGNED IN box underneath the username and password boxes on the GMail sign in page.
