Does anyone happen to know if the neo has an internal drum pattern/efects ? the original 2488 has one, according to the tutorial dvd. The neo manual does'nt state otherwise, if it has drum effects, any ideas on how to get to them ? Thanks
No the neo does not have the built-in drum patterns/drum machine like the origial grey 2488 did. It was abandoned for the 2488 MkII which was the intermediate model and hasn't reappeared.
I create drum patterns either using an external machine recorded in real time to a track on the my 2488 or create a drum pattern on the PC which I save as a mono wav and import to a track on the 2488.

You'll need your PC as the intermediary. You'll have to do a USB export of the tracks you want from the DP01 to your PC and then connect the 2488's USB to the PC and do a USB import of those tracks into new tracks on the 2488.
Page 40 of the DP01FX manual will explain using the USB connection and page 43 details the steps for performing a USB export.
In the 2488 NEO manual refer to pages 80 and 81 for using the USB connection and importing the tracks.
The best way to accomplish this would involve ripping the sountrack from disk first using your PC to create a wav file and then importing the resulting stereo wav file into a pair of tracks on the 2488 NEO.
The process for ripping would depend on whatever software you use to rip from the CD (lots of free ones available out there) and the process to import a stereo wave into the 2488 NEO would be detailed in your 2488 manual on pages 81 and 81.
This will reinitialize it to the factory settings. All data (music) will be lost.
With the 2488 turned OFF
Simultaneouly, hold down the Quick Routing, Shift, Send and Shut Down buttons.
With all buttons pressed .... turn the 2488 ON.
It shoulld go through the normal boot up screens, including a screen that states ' partitioning drive', etc. When finished it will show ' Factory Settings Reinitialized - Reboot (or something like that) and you are done.
I have the original 2488 as well, and tried everything recommended to address the HDD lockups.
I think I know why Tascam eliminated the Tone Generator (Drums) on the MKII and Neo versions.
Too much for the processor to handle?? Hope this helps.
No. Unfortunately you are stuck with the drum kits and standard midi that come with the 2488. I find the tone generator sounds to be pretty good on the 2488 quality-wise at least. Of course having the versatility of swapping in other kits and tones/samples would be nice. I believe Tascam discontinued the tone generator/drum machine on subsequent models of 2488 because it seems that the demand wasn't there.
I USE THE INTERNAL DRUM MACHINE ALL THE TIME, BUT ONLY ONE TRACK AT A TIME PER SONG. I CAN CUSTOMIZE THE SONG BY CHANGING THE TEMPO, STYLE, AND LENGTH. EACH SONG SOUND GREAT. TRY IT. (DAYSHIFT).
Go check out these pictures, and there is some good info about micing up your drums. :) Recording it is then a case of getting levels good for a start by worling your way around the kit one drum at a time setting the level for that drum. a bit of nice reverb in the mix and out come you drums.... whoooohhooooo
From your description it sounds like you recorded the midi drum patterns to a track first and then playback from that track is giving you problems. If this is the case it sounds a lot like a bug that existed in the firmware prior to release 1.02 where edits could cause gaps on tracks. You can check your firmware version on bootup and if you don't have version 1.02 installed you can get the firware and instrustion on how to upgrade it here:
