When this happened after you charged the battery, a few things can be wrong. The worst that could happen, is the battery did not survive the charging session. Other things:
You managed to put the battery in, but the wrong side around. Almost impossible, but I don't know how strong you are.
There is a bit of dust in the battery compartment. Just a little piece of paper can be enough to block the current.
The battery door / cover, is not closed correct. Every battery cover has a switch that is needed to inform the camera that the cover is locked. When the switch does not work, the camera won't switch on.
So my advice: remove the battery, Look if all contacts are clean and shiny. On the battery and in the camera. Check if the battery is really charged, by placing it again on the charger.
After reinserting the battery, check is the battery cover is closed correct.
Testimonial: "I tried everything you said but no results. Finally I bought brand new pair of batteries, put it in the camera and noticed something wierd: My camera is heating at the side of DC in , USB jack but still on/off buttonis is dead. Nothing happens when I press them."

If you make sure that the memory card is properly seated and the batteries in and the battery door properly closed, then it should power up. If still no success, it may be the micro switch that closes when the battery door is closed.

I had the same problem. Here's the solution. Go into menu settings, then over to tools, select reset all at the bottom of options list. You may have to re-enter the date and time. This solved the low battery problem for me. I hope this helps.

Buy the best quality batteries, but NOT the highest mAhr ones. They are designed for long usage for low drain applicaions but may not be able to deliver the high currents required by digital cameras. 2100-2400mAh is said to be best. Also, use a good quality charger that can discharge and slow recharge to reconditionbatteries. I recently bought a Maha charger and some Imedion batteries. Now my camera works as it should. (previously it lost the auto-focus after a few shots). A bit expensive but cheaper than a new camera!
