According to http://www.laserquipt.com/support/idx/42/615/article/-Reset-the-Printer-to-the-Factory-Defaults-NVRAM-Reset-.html (and it worked for me):

NOTE: Resetting NVRAM returns stored parameters in the image processor board NVRAMto their factory default values. The print count and the Adobe firmwareserial number are not affected by this reset. You can reset the PostScript NVRAM using the Service Tools menu or the Service Diagnostics menu.
To reset the printers NVRAM using the Service Tools menu:

NOTE: Print a Configuration Page before resetting NVRAM.
Pressand hold the [Up] arrow button on the Control Panel, and then press the[OK] button. This will automatically display the Service Tools menu onthe Display Screen.

  1. Press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Reset NVRAM], and then press the [OK] button.
To reset the printers NVRAM using the Control Panel:
  1. Pressthe [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select[Troubleshooting] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK]button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Service Tools], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Reset NVRAM], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Exit], and then press the [OK] button to return to the Main screen.
In answer to the clarification request, I suspect they have lost the admin password. Does that help you answer the question?

Xerox phaser 7760 saying "non-phaser imaging unit"

There is a snippet on the Xerox website to solve imaging unit recognition problems, link below. http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-7760/downloads/engb.html?operatingSystem=winxp&fileLanguage=en_GB Usually this problem only occurs if the NVRAM has been reset or the engine board has been replaced without backing up the NVRAM. You can download the snippet to your printer through Centreware or by downloading the 'File Downloader' utility from the same page above.
Hope this helps.

Have a Xerox Phaser 8560 DN printer when trying to print test page or anything and get: ERROR: rangecheck OFFENDING COMMAND: setpagedevice STACK: -dictionary-

Sounds like a Postscript error. Try resetting the NVRAM. 'Troubleshooting', Service Tools', 'Reset NVRAM'. If that doesn't work, go into diagnostics and clear the PS NVRAM. 'Troubleshooting', 'Service Tools', press and hold 'Up Button' then press 'Down Button'. This takes you into a hidden service menu. From there scroll down to 'Enter Service Diagnostics' and press OK. Printer will turn off and reboot into diagnostics. Scroll down to 'Function' menu and press OK. Now scroll down to 'Clear PS NVRAM' and press OK. Press 'Back' button to return to first menu, scroll up to select 'Return To Customer Mode' and press OK. Don't forget you will lose all printer settings including your IP address. As you cannot print out a configuration page, this will be like setting the printer up from new as you will have no reference to your earlier settings.
Hope this helps.

Reset xerox phaser to factory settings

Try performing an NVRAM reset, located in 'Troubleshooting', 'Service tools', 'NVRAM reset'. I would advise printing out a configuration page first 'Information', 'Information Pages', 'Configuration Page'.
Hope this helps.

Phaser 8560 error code

Most likely you are using generic ink or ink not made for that specific machine. The black ink is the one causing the problem. the printer will then need to be reset.
