A blck spot on your pictures, means there is something blocking light on the sensor. Could be dirt, but more lightly is there has formed some mould.
Because you can't open a compact camera to clean the sensor, I think you can't solve this problem. Opening the camera is no option, because without skills, tools and manual, you won't be able to put the camera together. A repair shop most likely won't start the job, because the repair will cost more than a new camera.
Sorry I can't bring a more positive story.

SOURCE: LCD screen black with white specs in picture and movie mode

With the power off, hold the camera in your palm and smack the front of the camera on your leg or arm. You might have to smack it a few time to get it to work. It has to do with the camera CDD lense (shuttle) being stuck. By smacking it around, it will free up the lense. Being extra gentle with it though. It worked for me. Hope this help.

SOURCE: back spot on canon ixus 860 screen

Well, not sure if you got it resolved yet but the same thing happened to me. Brought it back and got it fixed under warranty. You'll most likely see more gray circles appear over time. They don't affect the picture but they are annoying.

SOURCE: Black spots on LCD screen

you need to make sur about something:
the black spot, is it a dead pixels?
if it's not, canon will fix it for you free of charge as it could be a CCD problem.

SOURCE: my canon sd10 digital camera lcd balnk/black bu

Had the same problem with my SD10. The switch in the AV port sometimes gets dirty or corroded, and tricks the camera into thinking that an AV plug is inserted. This will turn off the screen.

To fix it, repeatedly insert and remove an AV cable into the port several times. This may help break off any corrosion or dirt that may be holding this switch open.

Not capturing pictures

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help:
